Well done Robbo, spot on with your prediction there.

Another reality check to where we are as a nation in albeit the group of death.

I can only speak for myself but i haven't got excited or carried away with this wc....just seen it all before and personally i care more about QPR. Would get more satisfaction from
us staying up than England winning the wc....just don't care.
Btw agree ref was awful, maybe the English press and FA hammering Blatter before the tournament started sealed our fate......don't tell me that would be beyond fifa and absurd.....
Yes wasn't why we lost but fifa hate us

Not a great game, but one truly world class player made the difference.

Suarez, irritating little **** as he is, is a magnificent footballer. Got to admire the talent, if not the man. Was nice to see him give credit to his doctor too, remarkable to play almost 90 minutes a month after a major surgery.

Don't know about you Dave but I don't remember seeing Spain ripped apart not once but twice. It was brilliant to watch. The thing about Chile is that they have been working on high tempo, high pressure attacking football for a while. Roy has been working on it for about a month and seems to have forgotten how to coach defending.

I think there has been some outstanding attacking football (av 3 goals a game which is way ahead of previous tournaments) and some awful, awful defending. I really hate to say this but speaking as England rather than us, JT had an excellent season and Hodgson had the option of a 3/4 Chelsea back line with plenty of Liverpool going forward. That would have given some structure, we really looked chaotic at times. I didn't see a skipper out there tonight. I just don't think Cole and Terry (skipper) alongside Cahill would have been in such a fvckin mess.

Ross Barclay was again excellent. If we stay with this attacking philosophy, he has to start. But the back end is where the problem is. I suspect Joe Hart is low on confidence again, which isn't a surprise, but if he was on song he would closed down a lot more for the second goal. I don't what has happened to Gerrard, but he looks physically shot.

Gerrard has never been as influential for England as he might have been, but I think that slip against Chelsea has broken him.

World Cup as a whole has been outstanding. A couple of stinkers (Greece-Japan right up there for stinkiness) but mainly excellent entertainment, and some superb goals.

Just a shame England have been so disappointing, even to the meagre expectations I had.

Never expected England to get out of the group but I think the comfort we can all take is that the younger players will be playing together for England in the next few tournaments and they've done ok. Roy needs to keep starting Sterling, Lallana, Barkley etc and they will all be big players for England.

So I'm thinking about England and world class players and am I right in thinking the last time we see world class quality was Alan Shearer in Euro 96?

In Wayne Rooney I have never known such an over rated footballer in all my life. Jagielka at CB , would it have made much difference to have played Clint Hill tonight?

We have a habit of stifling young talent in this country , remember Hoddle with Owen in 98 having to give in to public opinion and played him. Money is the root cause off the downward spiral of the quality of players we see in this country. We have stagnated in producing top coaches over 30 years now, this has impacted on the quality of player we produce. We lack the culture , style and class of our foreign counterparts.

                  Rooney was class though.

England dominated the game, but was unfortunate. Uruguay took semi-home advantage.

It was like watching South Korea v Uruguay back in 2010 world cup, a round of 16 match.

South Korea dominated the game, Lee chung-Yong's header shocked Uruguay but Suarez then scored 2 goals...

Can't disagree with any of that, but I go back to my comments about the younger players. If nurtured right there is no reason why Sterling, Lallana, Barkley etc cant go on to be world class. Unfortunately in this day and age with foreign talent preferred over English talent in the premier league that looks unlikely to happen.

We said exactly the same thing 10 years ago when the last so called "golden generation" of English talent promised so much and never ultimately delivered. W12 is right that it comes back to the coaching and culture issue.

Think we are all agreed that it has to change at the FA for any change to happen. We need to adopt the same strategy Germany use.

We have decent youngters on that showing but if were all being honest do any of them really look like there going to turn us from what we have been into the likes of Germany or Holland. I think we will see more of the same for the next 15 20 years from these youngsters

Possibly Sterling and Barclay outside of that no chance
