Last time we went up we tore up a team/squad spirit and that created untold issues. I'd keep players like O'Neill as when the going gets tough next season, we are going to need players who want to put a shift in for the club.

Don't care what anyone says this bloke is a ****ing legend in my book, if it wasn't for him we could still be sitting in the championship, took one for the team so deserves another year.

        Hear, hear.

People seem to have very short memories with our last team of "superstars".......

Worth a 1 year deal. Anyone else noticed all our players out of contract and were looking to give new deals too haven't been really linked with anyone?? Wonder what that means 🙈

We need to keep the nucleus and sense of togetherness in the squad, something we didn't do the first time round, and O'Neil is very much part of that.
            Happy with this news.

He is not the greatest player but would be a good squad player.

Worth keeping around the squad and he's not gonna be on a big wage i guess it's all about getting the right balance. We're gonna need the O'Neil's and Faurlins of this world or we'll once again be looking at bringing in 10 new players and thats not worked out so well for us in the premier league before.

Well said Jimmy, I agree with that 100%

We kept the nucleus of our championship team together first game we went up - lost 4-0 at home to Bolton.

I'm not expecting us to go out and spend £20m on a player. I just think players like Jenas and Benayoun have more to offer and I wd off-load the likes of O'Neil first. I just don't think he does anything very well, but respect that other fans see something in him that I must always miss.

You got to remember champ is different to the prem. oneil is a solid, technically good player. Remember we had the likes of tommy smith, mackie, Derry when we last came up so I think it's a good call keeping oneil as a dependable team player.

At that point though we hadnt strengthened the squad at all.

And we won away at Everton the game after.
