true mate , but the fact remains we looked by all accounts a much better unit when joey went off! i agree he has been one of our best players this season and this could have been a one off , but all the same its worth a debate i think.

carroll had a good game vs ipswich but i think thats down to them not having any real strength in there to put him under pressure.
Soldier: "im on reconnaissance sir.. im looking for our camouflage expert.. have you seen him?"
      Lovejoy: "No?!"

Think it's more to do with the way the whole team played in the second half mate.

Not sure that Henry coming on due to Barton's injury had that much of an effect.

Thing is, we proved in the second half performances against Blackpool and Ipswich, that we are well capable of beating anyone, even away, if we play to our strengths and stop messing around. That's all most of us have been getting annoyed about all season.

The main difference from what i can gather on Saturday, was midfielders getting into the box and getting in front of Austin. Why this suddenly happened on Sat and not before is the mystery to me.

Even a stopped clock is correct twice a day, Dave.

This. Big time. I'm Joey's biggest fan, but he often drops too deep and plays the ball deep. Sometimes it's worth mixing it up and getting it up to Charlie early. Even, as with Clint's hoof for the third goal, whacking it upfield early, occasionally. Joey's still an automatic pick for me, however.

Overall I thought Henry did quite well when he came on. I'd say Barton's under a bit of pressure now to keep his place, especially if he's not fit in time for Saturday and we have another win and strong performance to make it two on the bounce.

No chance dropping Joey he's been exceptional and lead by example. You don't just drop your best players for the sake of it. Joeys been apart of most of all our good things this year.
Do you really want to see Henry in the team over Joey?

Thought Henry was pants on Saturday. He looked an accident waiting to happen. He mostly broke up play only by being a warm body on the pitch (which is fair enough) and I can't remember one decent pass. He wasn't involved in any of the goals. First goal was an individual effort which would have happened whatever the team. Second and third down to positive play (and luck for Traore's) where the lesson is, as I've said, get the ball up earlier and, as Dave rightly says, get midfielders into the box and occasionally in front of Charlie

What Henry did on Saturday was to allow Tom Carrol to dominate the midfield.
Henry stopped a good few of their efforts and on top of that he picked out a lot of good passes.
IMO, this was the Karl Henry who started the season quite well.
If he or another player in the Squad can play in this position it will allow Joey Barton to play in a more attacking role. When Joey plays in a defensive role, he can also make errors.
Bottomline: Horses for courses, and credit when credit is due.

we never played the usual one or two wingers hoilett, phillips or swp , a lot of our play breaks down from them and they are forever giving the ball away or wasteful , henry is slow and prone to mistakes where as barton is a leader and never hides on the pitch even if he messes up he still wants the ball
