Thats not a bad shout. Why buy a striker when the midfield doesnt create anything.

Credit where credit is due Barton has changed his character because no one came in for
him because of his conduct record ,his wage demands and then realised he would have
to knuckle down to progress his career.

Nothing in any way shape or form to do with HR

So if Harry had decided not to play him, he would have chosen to conduct himself in the same way?

Harry played him because he's a very good player at this level regardless of his temperament. Hardly a managerial masterstroke.

Strawy the straw man does not make for good debates, because usually he is left to grasp at straws than address the point that was made.

well he was a fixture in his team until the man city madness. How Redknapp would have reacted if he'd been manager at the time.....no one knows. Be pure guess work.

I'd be very reluctant about giving him money to spend this month.
I wouldn't call any off them 'gash', they are all former premier league players now playing at their level in the Championship. All are good additions to any squad pushing for promotion. Would I play them in the Premier League? Not if I could help it but we are not in the Premier League and the sooner people realise that the better.

Redknapp like any manager works with players he knows, its good for team spirit as well. We are not a team which lacks effort but a lack off quality has found us wanting on a few occasions this season. This transfer window is very important if we want to get promoted, its time to add firepower and that extra bit of quality. To say, "I'd be very reluctant about giving him money to spend this month" is quite possibly one of the most ridiculous statements I've ever heard on here and is right up there with those calling for Redknapp to be replaced.

I'm not wearing rose tinted specs, I'm fully aware of our shortcomings but Redknapp has done what any good manager would do at this club coming into the mess that Hughes left behind. He has got rid of the bad eggs, galvanised the squad, built from the back and has full control off the dressing room. We are so fortunate it has gone this way as we could have been in free fall had the wrong replacement for Hughes been made like someone like that i.diot Di Canio.

I made my point, you made a straw man argument. Ergo, my calling it a managerial masterstoke that he decided to play Joey Barton, which is not at all what I was saying.

Bill is saying that Harry had nothing to do with Joey's reformation of character, which I find total nonsense. If nothing else, I'm sure even Harry's biggest detractors will admit he sorted out the dressing room, which does include a certain Mister Barton. Furthermore, as we have seen he is not averse to freezing out certain players, so no it's not a "given" that he plays him. He obviously has had a good talk with him, and we've all seen the effect.

I find it incredible that even the good things Harry has done are trying to be dismissed.

I responded to the general conversation about Barton's demeanour change being attributed (even if in part) to Harry, unfortunately this crappy forum only quotes the last post, rather than the conversation so far, so responses can seem a little out of context.

I don't think Harry playing Barton was a difficult decision for him, nor do I have any idea how Barton would have behaved if he hadn't been picked. No one can. Therefore to claim it as something to count in his positive column is grasping at straws a touch (no pun intended)

He has certainly done good things though, and as underwhelmed as I have been with Redknapp this season, he's still plenty good enough to take our squad to promotion, so don't see a reason to start demanding his removal.

This thread has certainly come a fair distance from taking the **** out of Karl Henry's passing hasn't it?

I agree that Harry deserves credit for getting Joey in the team and playing well. I also think our squad looks pretty decent on paper. My concerns are more with the way we are playing and the direction that results are heading (they are getting worse, not better). Plus we've been turned over by both Burnley and Leicester so we are probably third best at best - and the playoff lottery looms - if results don't keep getting worse, that is!
