Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp conceded defeat today in his attempts to sign Andros Townsend on a permanent deal from Tottenham.

Redknapp is a huge admirer of the 22-year-old (above) having worked with him while in charge of Spurs and then taking him on loan to QPR for the second half of last season.

The quotes dont really sound like he has given up to me. More like he wants a better deal to buy him or to loan him.

Because he is running a tight ship and wants to be able to justify each deal rather than just throw money around like the club did last summer.

3mil is about right, 4mil max imo. But only cos he's English. A foreigner with a dozen decent games and a string of unsuccessful lower league loans would never fetch that much.

I'd expect us to get Assaidi on loan rather than pay £4m for Townsend.

yeah that seems how it works. Negotiations = both sides start at their dream positions which get into the papers but there is a lot of room for talk in between especially about performance targets.

Cant imagine many paying £7m cash but for example £3m cash + £1m if he is a regular and QPR get promoted + £1m if he is a regular and QPR finish top half in the EPL next year + £1m if he wins the FA Cup blah blah blah - point being if he does well then the price is more. Could see that working. If the club had done that last year might have saved £30m on wages
