Sick of this rubbish of two defensive midfielders every game. Start Diakite, put Granero in there to help out defensively, but when we get the chance, push men forward.

Be careful what you wish for. Diakite, if he happens to start today would need to be replaced at HT to ensure we keep 11 on the pitch, for a defensive mid-fielder - he is one of the worst mis-timers of a tackle I have ever seen.Originally posted by Marshy View PostSick of this rubbish of two defensive midfielders every game. I disagree with the OP. Diakite cannot play as the sole defensive midfielder, he it too gung ho. Thinks he has too much time to twist and turn and dribble the ball, maybe in the french league you might get that time but over here someone will wallop you and win the ball off you.
I like the boy but he has lots to learn about the english game.

You and me both, as I wrote a week ago. Our defensive midfielders are rubbish. Compare Mbia and Derry to, for example Arteta and Wilshere, and you get the picture why we never attack. But wouldn't start Diakite there, but Onuoha and put Boswinga right back.Originally posted by Marshy View PostSick of this rubbish of two defensive midfielders every game. IMO, Derry is the best defensive midfielder we have and Granero is the best attacking midfielder we have who can also tackle. Derry beside Mbia or Diakite and Granero behind Remy or Zamora in a 4-2-3-1.Originally posted by Marshy View PostSick of this rubbish of two defensive midfielders every game. One thing you have to do with Utd is stop the ball getting out wide,Utd very rarely trouble teams coming through the middle. As soon as there CM players get the ball they look to get the ball out wide so we 2 options 1) push the 2full backs a little higher and put pressure on them early so the wide ball comes more difficult to play and have 2 lively midfielders sitting tight and harassing there CM or 2) sit 5 across the midfield and try and overpower them, for me,when I see teams hold or beat Utd they always stop the ball getting out wide.
