Three new strikers in the squad come January ?

Due to MH stupid squad building (letting go of HH and numerous mistakes) i think we are in need for 3 new strikers in January.
Johnson out for the season, Zamora out for three months.

Who would like to join us ?
    More mercenaries ?
Should we get DJ back into the squad and maybe even Hulse or add young striker like Sutherland ?

Get DJ back and get Makie back upfront. Maybe one striker should be signed. Sutherland worth a punt as well.

such is the desperation that young up and coming championship players will be seen as a risk, and so i expect more over 30s superstars to come in and do crap. Im struggling to think of a combination of age, injury-proneness and wow factor that will enable them to earn a high wage but I am sure that Hughes will source them and TF will sign off on the purchase.

Gary Hooper and Charlie Austin for me, but it will never happen

Yes, DJ and Mackie seem to be the obvious choices, plus another one. We need four proper forwards, not this 'versatility' Hughes bangs on about, and I think Mackie's proper position is forward.

Mackie is only ever not terrible when played as a wide forward in a 4231/433. He's not very good up front, and useless at right midfield. I'd love him to prove me wrong, of course, but I really can't see him suddenly turning into a premiership class centre forward.

This whole 'WE NEED MORE PLAYERS!!! SIGN MORE PLAYERS!!!' attitude is partly why we're in this mess right now. Perhaps we do need another forward to cover for AJ and Zamora's injuries (hi DJ), but we really don't need to make massive changes to the squad, yet again. The players we have currently should be perfectly good enough to stay up.

Mackie reminds me of a former Rangers player, if used in the right position.
            That being Jamie Cureton.
Any thoughts of Mackie playing up front.

Wasnt JM playing as a front man with us in the Championship before his leg break? Started the season on fire with 7 or 8 goals

Nope. I would say he's started fewer than five games for us as a centre forward.

That season he played on the right of an Ephraim - Taarabt - Mackie line behind Helguson. Wide right in a 4231

Lets get two decent centre halves before we sign strikers... English preferably.. Also a midfielder who gets beyond the striker(s). We can't defend any ball into the box and conceding every game is more worrying than failing to score in every game....dj back would help as would mackie playing up front.

Hope Harry brings in some good coaches too, someone who can organize the team and get the team able to defend set pieces and attack with set pieces. Someone who can get the players in the right positions at the right time...like in the box when a winger lobs a cross in for example. Think Hughes backroom team are as clueless as he is.

For balance, Hughes could have done better. DJ should have stayed as many of us think, that would've given us four strikers. Most would've kept HH instead of getting AJ. However, with the injury records of AJ and BZ, Hughes should've had better plans for forwards. DJ could take AJs place in the squad, Mackie could go into the forwards group. This would give us BZ, Cisse, Mackie and DJ. Would that be enough? Maybe, maybe not.

As for the rest of the squad, Barton for Ephraim and Dyer for a LB. These changes are the cheaper option. Balanced squad, and at that point we then look at replacing underperforming players. If we make these changes, all that would be spent is the price of a LB. Any surplus money can be spent on strengthening CB or CF positions if required.

I would get DJ back in the squad but more importantly I'm hoping we can bolster with some players that want to play for us whilst getting rid of some of the last chance salooners we brought in during the summer.

God forbid Mark Hughes getting another oppurtunity to buy new players at all.
                              Hughes OUT NOW.
