  • Article on Granero

ZonalMarking.net's Michael Cox uses FourFourTwo's StatsZone app – now FREE – to applaud the most eyebrow-raising signing of the summer...
Considering the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal were all looking at central midfielders this summer, it’s something of a surprise to see Esteban Granero turn up at Queens Park Rangers. The Spanish midfielder was surplus to requirements at Real Madrid following the signing of Luka Modric, who does something similar: reliable distribution from the centre of midfield.

how exciting to think we'll be watching a team with granero, park, cisse, hoillett and cesar all in it...if this team gels we will hand out a couple of spankings this season ourselves.
    come on you r's!

There are 35 games left to play and I feel that after a couple of tough fixtures coming up after the international break, we can really get ourselves going with a good result against West Ham

With this in mind I would suggest our strongest team against the big teams/away from home would be:

        ---------------------Cesar----------------------
        Bosingwa----Nelsen-----Ferdinand------Fabio
        ---------------------Mbia-----------------------
        ----------Granero----------Diakite-------------
        -----Park----------------------------Hoillett-----
        -----------------Cisse/Zamora------------------

And at home against the weaker sides i'd go:

        ---------------------Cesar----------------------
        Bosingwa----Nelsen-----Mbia----------Fabio
        -----------Granero--------Diakite-------------
        -----Park---------Taarabt-----------Hoillett-----
        -----------------Cisse/Zamora------------------

Presumably Faurlin will plug the Diakite gap seeing as we don't know when he'll be back and a) available, b) fit enough physically and mentally.

Mate Im horrified! I cant believe I just done that. I think its cos that article doesnt mention him it slipped my mind.

Yeah Faurlin in for Diakite all day every day.

I prefer when Diakite pushes up and runs at teams ala Yaya Toure.

imo Faurlin should start every game no matter what. He and Granero would be my midfield 2 every game with Diakite coming in against stronger teams to make a midfield 5

Mbia will play Centre half alongside Anton and Faurlin will come in defensive midfield.

Looks a good team on paper.

Posed this article at the weekend.

Wondered why Granero created so few chances when he is obviously a gifted passer with good vision. We came to the conclusion that the deeper role he played at Madrid was why, and if we want the best out of him he needs a role higher up the pitch.

Would add to that, after watching a few highlights of him, he is a very good finisher. Graneo arriving late in the box will lead to some much needed goals from midfield too.

I hope so. one of my frustrations for a long time is that we never seem to have someone arriving late to strike the ball. we have one or two strikers in the box and the next player is often 30 yards back down the pitch. also if we are to make 4-5-1 work better than it did against Swansea we need better link up play. that said cisse and adel seem to have carried the can for the swansea debacle but for me the problem was just as much formation - the midfield were obviously told to lie deep, which left cisse incredibly isolated. if granero has the athleticism and desire to be a real box-to-box midfielder he cd prove a v important signing.
