If we had not spent any money 17th would be ok but why would you as an owner, having spent quite a bit, be satisfied with the same position as last season?

A lot to do with the TV money taking a huge leap upward from 2013/14.

It would be disappointing to not improve position but still being on the gravy train would be a nice consolation. (in fact, I'd suggest it's a necessity)

but then we would never progress and progression is the most important thing to our owners. Trust me if we finish 17th MH will be worried about his job, regardless of whether it was a dog fight to stay up or if it's a 5 point gap above bottom 3 and never in doubt

i was speaking as a fan Rich...staying in the prem is my utmost concern. MH or TF wouldnt be satisfied with 17th but as a fan i would be.

                    REALITY CHECK GUYS...

We are a MID TABLE TEAM at BEST at the minute. We need to stiffen up at the back before I think we'll make the top 10. As much as I like Ferdinand he is not a European quality player, nor is Hill. They will both do a job but are nothing special. We have a very good attacking side and I can see plenty of goals in our team but we will also leak goals and struggle at the back. I'm pretty sure Hughes will be addressing this in the next week or so. Rome wasn't built in a day and whist I don't want this sound like I am being negative, I think we need a sense or reality brought back. We are in a much better place than we were last season but to challenge for top 10 we need more quality at the back.

                      Well said.

As long as we stay in this league(by hook or by crook) for the net couple of years, that will give us the foundation to push on with the stadium plans and only once that is completed will be able to compete financually with the other team and therefore push on up the table and into europe.
Until then, im just happy to survive in this league for the next five or so years.

agree, but i'd like to add the caveat of being safe say at least 4 games from the end of season!
