No!! we don't need another midfielder first, and second he had his chance, and after us giving him a platform to show what he can do he decided we weren't good enough. Hope this is just usual made up ****. All we'd be doing is helping Liverpool. I think it's a laughable idea after the meagre amount we received for him from Liverpool, now they want us/somebody to do more work to get him up to the level they require.

I'm sure their far superior youth set up had something to do with it too.

It's not the same as choosing another club over us is it? He was with our club to start with and thanked us by walking away first chance he got.Well we are a different club now, and we don't need to nursemaid other teams youngsters for them, if he ain't good enough for Liverpool yet then he ain't good enough for us

I would imagine that if Raheem Sterling was 10 years younger and was with us now, as we move towards having our own academy, he would stay. As it was I can understand him moving on. At his age money wouldn't have played much of a part, he's probably on no more than £3k a week right now.

This is very relevant.

We were trying to keep him with promises of throwing him into the first team, when he was only 15, when Liverpool could offer a professional, well-funded youth system (and probably a little bit more money, although we don't actually know who was offering more money)

The new setup would probably have given him more pause, but Liverpool are still probably better equipped to develop youth talent, for now.

You also wonder quite how much the decision was with the 15 year old Sterling, and how much with his parents?

I think it would be worth taking him on loan, for the reasons I stated earlier in the thread, but also at least we'd get something out of the time and effort we put into his development (beyond the compensation we have/will receive)
