anton is a top quality defender. onouha was really solid when played at right back in our run in last season. and fabio has been signed to play left back. we have nelsen, hill, young and connolly as cover, as well as traore who can play left back. basis of a good defence there so no need to panic - just need one really commanding, tough centre half then we will be done and dusted.

Dunno why people are slating him really?

IMO,the only question mark is how Fabio will perform.

These seem to be the options at the moment.

LB - Traore
CB - Onouha, Hill, Nelsen, Ferdinand, Connolly
RB - Young, Fabio, Harriman

My own opinion is Young is probably gone and Harriman will be back up for Fabio, who I believe has been brought in as a RB. Hill and Onouha can cover the FB slots as well, and I think MH will either bring in a LB to cover Traore or have the new guy as the main LB and have Traore as back up to a new LB or for Hoilett at LM. Like most, I think Traore is a better LM but I don't think MH will use him there that much otherwise we wouldn't be getting Hoilett.

If we get another LB in, that would sort out the FBs. The concern then would be our CBs. We all know we need a top class CB. Let's hope MH sees it that way too.

Connolly is not an option at all, I´m afraid. He is really poor.

a good player can play anywhere , so they should be able to swap about whether or not they are good enough is a different matter , as long as we dont have hill and AF in the middle together neither have any pace and are prone to careless mistakes

He is an option because he was taken on the tour and played. Whether he makes the 25 or is good enough is another matter.

We'll 'leak' goals no matter who he brings in coz one defender does not make a defence. Our defenders are good but not in the same leagu [e as Manks, #### and Scum so unless he buys a whole new defence we will still 'leak' goals.

agree but we all know that in reality the only new incomer defence wise is likely to be a CB and that is a key issue. My own view of Anton is that he went through a sticky patch post Terry but then started performing really well. So what we're really looking for is the man to partner him, and if that person can be found we will tighten up.

My sole worry re Anton was that he was badly advised re the court case - it was blindingly obvious pre trial that no one would come out smelling of roses irrespective of the verdict, which could have messed his head up. We have to be 100% behind him.
