The thing is Hitman, guaranteed next season Rooney will be banging them in again.

He's had some great games in qualifiers, but never at a Euro or World Cup since '04.

At 26 you wonder if he can still get any better...

Pretty much mate. Same old situation. Heap all this expectation/pressure on these young players shoulders...its a worry and you can only hope the powers that be will learn...

Totally different system there Dave - the Bundesliga is geared and designed towards assisting their national team. The two orgs work in harmony there, unlike here with the PL and FA.

The same can be said in France and Spain too.

Yeah but stanley surely the difference between them and us is more than just their league having a winter break? I mean i know that's not what you said but what other diff is there?

Less games, less foreign players there allowing for more home-grown talent. But above all a totally different system with their youth academies, particularly in Holland , France and Spain, and Germany to an extent. The emphasis is a lot more on coaching technique - ball retention under pressure, passing etc. It is changing here gradually but we're still a long way behind. As Lawreson said last night "Hoofball is sadly still in our DNA".

The Bundesliega has just 18 teams. Perhaps the EPL should be cut to this, a winter break introduced, total scrappage of all cup replays, and perhaps no premier league teams to play in the league cup. I think we may have to get used to no football over Christmas one day.

Having said that, I can't see the EPL ever cutting numbers in the division because of the TV money.

The Champions League shouldn't make much difference because it's the same for all of Europe's top sides.
Supporting QPR isn't just about a football team. It's about roots and identity.

The is the question last night to me is not if Ronney is a world class player or Englands best player but whether or not is Englands best team is with Rooney in it or not.

When we won the World Cup Sir Alf Ramsey he made the biggest decsion of his life when he chose to leave out Jimmy Greaves who at that time was our best striker. The reason why he did that is that we were a better team without him in it than with him in it.

Portugal players suit Ronaldos style of play and they are a better team with him in it, I am not sure if we can say the same for Engalnd as we looked and scored more goals without Rooney, this i dont think is down to him being a bad player but simply our style of play from the team dosnt suit him.
One for all.... and all for one

Well they only play 4 more games than us, and as i said the difference ain't a winter break. So it's as stanley said it's the mentality ie hoofball. Thing is to me the champions league is the problem, that should be re-set as a knockout over 2 legs like it used to be. This is what is played around the world and is being credited with giving other countries superior skills to us Futsal
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Futsal Apparently it is getting more popular here, and i think could be the answer, it also uses a smaller ball and is what Messi grew up playing.
