    Article suggesting Nelsen will be captain. If so those assuming he is just back up cd be disappointed, making a Samba like signing far less likely. Seems he is to Hughes what Derry and Hill were to Warnock - ie free signings that leave the fans underwhelmed at first but providing the leadership, steel and experience that the manager feels he needs.

    Elsewhere I see comments that Ireland transfer is dependant on what happens to Barton. Makes sense as similar players though Ireland maybe a bit more attack oriented. Further evidence that the club are looking to off-load Barton?

      Nelsen seems to have great leadership qualities (unlike our present captain) but I'd be surprised as it would indicate Hughes plans to make him a first-choice CB. As for Barton, much prefer Ireland but I don't think we're going to have an easy time of getting rid.

          firstly, stainrod thank you for replying to my personal query. i will take note of your advise and desist forthwith from underlying issues.

          On to Nelson, really cant see him as first choice let alone captain so i will hold that artical with contempt.

          if we do not sign a mobile solid defender then i would hazaed a guess that it will be hill and ferdie again next season with nelson as cover.

          onto ireland, with buzz not looking to keen on staying i would say that we need to go after ireland no matter what the outcome of joey b's case.

              What's wrong with him being 1st choice?

              He could be a leader and organiser who can keep Anton Ferdinand on his toes for the whole 90 mins (+ injury time) as well as keeping his full backs focussed. A leader like Tony Adams or going back further, Frank McLintock at QPR.

                      I guess I did, but my ref to McLintock was made because he was coming to the end of his career, was not fast, but a leader and organiser.

                      McDonald was a great defender who started his career and QPR and spent nearly all of it at the club, apart from a brief ending stint at Swindon.

                      I mentioned Adams because for the last few seasons he was mainly kept in the side for his commitment, leadership and organisational skills any pace he had gone seasons earlier.
