    Sweeper

It looks like we are going to sign two centre backs which, with Ferdinand, will leave us three top quality centre halves. You cd say thats an embarrassment of riches for a club that only has one Premiership-class, fit central midfielder and only one effective striker.

So I was wondering: for tough away games at Man City etc do you think we might play with a sweeper? Alex might be ideal for that role. I know Sparky normally likes 4-4-2 but otherwise it does seem strange that all our transfer activity seems to be focused on the defence at the moment (unless we are also pursuing more attacking players behind the scenes - hope so...). Anyway, just a thought.

I know it would never happen, but I would like to see something like this, as its as attacking as it is defensive. Young and Traore love getting forward and do a good job when they do and they would flourish with the additional CB cover at the back.

        ------------------- Kenny --------------------
        -------- Ferdinand - Onahura - Alex --------
        -- Young --------------------------- Traore --
        ------------ Barton ----- ??????? ------------
        ---- SWP ------- ??????? ------- ??????? ----

We could always see either Alex or onuhra as a defensive midfielder I believe they have both played there!

If we sign Alex and onohua I expect our back 4 will be

                  Onohua Ferdinand Alex young

At least until traore gets back!

Yes, can see Ferdinand making way personally if they both sign unless Traore is played left wing

Find myself agreeing with paul mason, at least against the bigger clubs. Unless we bring in several more players in it is hard 2 see how we can justify dropping a player of ferdinand's quality when people like mackie, derry etc still getting in the team.
