How noisy and unsightly is a train? I actually quite like seeing trains race across our countryside.

Some of those posh tw@ts in the Chalfonts want to try living next door to Heathrow.

you live in the coutry for tranquility a train rattling through disturbs it, talk of it happening around ruislip an end date of some like 2026, 14 years of disruption trucks etc

house prices also get affected , talking about it coming through ruislip and surrounding areas, these houses people would have had to take out huge mortgages to get these propertys and people are going to see their values drop

at the end of the day why do we need another station going to birmingham?

London is overcrowded and overpriced. why spend so much money for something that will encourage more commuting to London

Would it not be better to spend the 32 billion on regional development away from london

personally i think it would have been much better spent on a new motorway between coventry and Manchester to releive the M6 and M1 and it would benefit far more people and cause much less disruption

No government construction project has ever come near to being completed on time or on budget and the funny thing is California are having the exact same discussion now and here is a snippet regarding their costs - "Cost. Originally, voters were told the project would cost $33 billion, with state government, federal government and private enterprise sharing the cost roughly equally. New projections put the price tag at $98 billion, with no accurate assessment of how much each entity would pay"

If this goes ahead, it will go down as one of the most costliest mistakes ever.

These are problems we are discussing regularly in Norway as well!!

British job cannot always be just for British people. We live in a free market economy. We are a part of the EU so EU citizens are fully entitled to work here. It's good for the consumer as it keeps prices low.

I agree, the chances of this coming in on budget are extremely unlikely and the estimante of how many people will use the service is way too high. It will be unaffordable to many aand people are not very likely to need to commute between the 2 cities for face to face meetings in 2032. The way technology is improving people will be able to hold video conferences on their smartphones via some sort of Skype connection.

They would be better of investing in improving the current stations, trains and tracks and on technology to cut the need for so much travel.

However, if it does go through it could be great for QPR (if train tickets were cheap) as QPR could gain a lot of new fans (to watch a successful side) who will live miles away from London as it wont take long to get to the ground from the Midlands! QPR could be the new Man Utd (Okay, it's a fantasy).

The reason that I'm against it is that it will cost money that we as a country just do not have!!!!!!

Can see what you're saying mate, if it was my back garden id be fuming, naturally. But whatvi mean is 90% of those creating about it are not directly affected by it, thy just wanna use it as a stick to beat the powers that be with. Can only be a positive if you ask me. Although a good percentage of the work will go to foreigners, that's what really winds me up. Same with Olympics jobs and the westfields, comfortably 75% foreign labour on them sites.

the same people to moan about it ,couldn't wait to tear down the M40 flyover or use Terminal5 , NIMBY's
