SHOCKING: Rumours flying about that The Sun set Gary Speed up...

And was about to go public and expose all. If true they should be totally ashamed and held accountable! Lots of rumours about this all over twitter.

I really hope this isn't true. May you rest in peace Gary Speed.

No surprise really, was so out of the blue that it had to be a scandal about to be told.

Some folks saying that he was gay.

Agree. I find these sort of rumours to be in really bad taste. Let's wait for some real information rather than speculate.

What can a newspaper expose, if their is nothing to expose and there would be three lying, cheating cricketers playing cricket if there were no newspapers.

Lots of wild rumours. Saw one on saying his wife was having an affair. Who knows and its actually none of our business, tho' sure it will be trawled through in microscopic detail. Oh, and we will call The Sun or whoever it may have been for threatening to expose this, that or the other - and then avidly read all the dirt. We are, sadly, all a little bit guilty.

Ask Madeline McCann's parents or Milly Dowler's parents views on the press.

Its not an issue exposing cheats in sport is it, its when they hound, harass & torment normal people who have already suffered is what gets the public's back up.

If Gary Speed had something going on in his PRIVATE life that was his own business what the f#ck has it got to do with the newspapers? As usual nothing.

                    Well said.

The Press seem to have lost all sense of moral reason in recent years and need reminding of the fact that peoples private lives should remain private.

It looks this could be very sensitive subject which you know will not be able to be discussed without people throwing toys out of their prams, but why could he not come clean about what ever was going to be exposed, instead of ending his life?

Its the newspapers job to report the news, good, bad and ugly and if the Manager of the Welsh national team was leading a double life, it it news, however unpalatable it is for some.

No such thing as a private life any more... To much social networking etc. Press in this country are pretty ruthless. I've been around the world and not seen much like it... There's to many daily papers and their desperate for the story, which inevitably causes false stories.

What goes on in someone's private life should be private as long as it doesn't involve corruption/ anything illegal or expose them as being hypocrites. But Paul, GT and others are right to point out that we are all just as much to blame as newspapers. The News of the World was Britain's best selling newspapers and you can't tell me that its readers didn't understand that its methods were pretty intrusive. Also don't think you should tar the entire press with the same brush.
