I don't think that is right - it is not the right deal for us. We are still a club that could be relegated - too much risk to have 5 years at that wage.

Nothing to do with ambition - you have to be sensible and build step by step. Would be amazed if owners have done this.

The offer mentioned by some Geordies is 5 years at 60 k a week let's face it the offer must be massive to attract a player like Barton.
