With Cabaye and Tiote in the middle Barton has played on the right hand side of midfield for the first two games of the season.
When you sign a player of his calibre you don't think who is going to get dropped you think where is his best position and stick him there. Someone will miss out and I know people might think why should this player or that player miss out but if we want to be an established Premiership team most of what we know to be the first XI won't get a look in.

alright mate, out of curiosity why would you play campbell out of position on the right instead of smith there and taarabt on the left wing? makes no sense - the bolton game is harsh to judge and it was his debut for us but even in the first half you could see DJ was not used to playing that sort of position. he is a fox in the box type player not a wide player who can cut inOriginally posted by paulmason View PostIf he had signed and from what I have seen so far this season, I would play
----- Derry --- Barton -----
- Campbell? - Buzz - Smith -
--------- Boothroyd? ---------

If you check out Sky's team selections for Saturday, Barton was bang in the middle against Sunderland and that's his position, smashing up play in the middle of the park and going looking for the ball, not hamstrung on the right.Originally posted by sirpiechucker View PostWith Cabaye and Tiote in the middle Barton has played on the right hand side of midfield for the first two games of the season.

If you look, I put a ? beside their names, as Im not sure about them but I bet NW will play them if they are fit, but Taarabt is overweight, unfit and should not start IMO.Last edited by paulmason; 24-08-2011, 02:24 PM.

Smith is not PL quality whilst Taarabt and Faurlin both potentially can be very good at this level.Originally posted by paulmason View PostWhat has Smith done wrong to warrant to be dropped and JB is most productive in the middle of the field, going after the ball, breaking play up, and driving forward, making things happen.
Given the lack off real PL quality in our squad that is why Smith should make way.

That's Sky's selection pre-match rather than the actual position he's been occupying.Originally posted by paulmason View PostIf you check out Sky's team selections for Saturday, Barton was bang in the middle against Sunderland and that's his position, smashing up play in the middle of the park and going looking for the ball, not hamstrung on the right.

All about opinions mate, I see where youre coming from tbf, but I, personally, rate Smith and think hes a very clever footballer (albeit not as exciting and creative as Adel) and at least woth Smith we know we wil try 100%... also, he is our top scorer this seasonOriginally posted by W12_Ranger View PostSmith is not PL quality whilst Taarabt and Faurlin both potentially can be very good at this level.

You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.
