Would give us just the, erm, fighting spirit we need to stay up. Cracking news. Hope it comes off. Blimey, you can imagine him sorting Adel out if he doesn't pass...

Is this the first test to see if TF can walk the walk as well as talk the talk?

Everything I've read so far suggests he is totally serious and committment but Barton won't come cheaply. He'll have a number of good offers on the table so it will be interesting to see if TF gets his man.

And the rest mate....I would imagine he's on at least that now. Newcastle have hardly been tight on wages over the years.

Add to that the fact he is going to be a Free transfer his agent will be pulling out the stops to make sure some of that saving the clubs getting (£5m approx value) comes their way in the form of a big signing on fee and inflated wages.

            I think he'll be after £65k / week

EDIT: we are getting way ahead of ourselves anyway just because we've been given permission to talk to him. Newcastle have said he's available, so any club that asks for it, will be given permission to talk to him. By default, his agent will hold talks to see what's being offered. I would love to see him join, but can't see it as there will be others come in i'm sure as he's a class player.

On that basis would Puncheon for £1m be a better signing?

Fingers crossed everyone, but lets not get too high, because as we all know already it's a bloody deep low if it does'nt happen.

Common mate I think he's being sarcastic there, well I hope so anyways. A player of barton's calibre on a free is a tremendous bit of business.

im suprised theres people turning their noses up at the thought of Joey Barton signing, this is a player that should and could walk into the england squad. If he did join, who knows it might mean Adel might pass the pass the ball a bit when it counts!

A top player! Bit worried he will cause unrest in the camp, but I guess if any manager in football can deal with him, its Warnock! So sign him up Fernandes!!

QPR make move for Newcastle midfielder Joey Barton

Newcastle midfielder, who was made available on a free transfer earlier this summer, gets permission to speak to QPR.

which would be great. An excellent signing without a big dent in the budget, leaving room for more.
