A sportsman once named "Britain's brainiest footballer" has been charged with drinking and driving, it has emerged.

Clarke Carlisle, of Ripponden, West Yorkshire, was stopped by police in an Audi Q7 in Prestwich, Greater Manchester, on the morning of 29 July....

Supposedly that's why Burnley loaned him out because he was being excessive with the drinking again. Was a very good player in the championship last season and should still be playing at that level.

People who drink and drive are vermin there are no excuses... I know there will be some reading this who have done the same but I don't care. It is very irresponsible, dangerous and wrecks innocent lives... hope he gets a custodial, alcoholic or not......:rage:

Would like to know more details surrounding this...

Not condoning this is anyway shape or form; just want to know if he was hammered in the morning or if this was just too much alcohol in his system from the night before. Still for someone who has been through rehab this really isn't good news.

Exactly 6 months after this article came out on how he beat his demons....
