This is a fantastic deal!!!

He would be a much better but that CMS and that deal in my opinionwould represent better value.

we need two strikers - he could well be one. But if we do go for someone like Bothroyd have a sneaking feeling the second one will be either an old stager from the prem or someone abroad maybe not even on our radar.

Not to mention Maynard has potential. Bothroyd is about to turn 29, whereas Maynard is only 24. His value will only increase.

Other than that, Maynard is simply a better - and more consistent - footballer, and possesses pace and technique, both are vital in the Premier League.

It's a tricky one, because a lot depends on the system we'll play.
If Taarabt is still around, then we will play with one up front, like last season.
If he goes, then we may play with two "strikers" at times.

Assuming that we still play the 4-2-3-1 sytem from last season, then Bothroyd would be ideal for that. Although I don't think he's as good as many seem to think... but he would fit very well. And I'll go with what Warnock thinks about that, not goal stats from Wikipedia on a striker who wouldn't fit the system.
If Taarabt plays, you can't (IMO) play with a "Kevin Phillips type" striker alongside a target man. We'd be torn apart in midfield.

Only Warnock knows what type of team he wants to go into the season with. I reckon he'll want to pack the midfield with creative players, and protect the back four, and play one up front. At first, anyway.
So someone like CMS or Maynard would either be played wider (like Mackie was) or be used from the bench a lot.
If Adel goes, it could be different.

Why not both, one on a free, one for 2 million? DJ Campbell too, Helguson. Much better than what we have, Maynard is a quality player.
