I am no expert on this (perhaps I should become one given the amount I spend on trains!) but I thought Network Rail cards (the only one I think you are eligible for if you are over 26 and under 60 ?) only discounts travel in the "network area" which ( again, I thought and I may be wrong) was London and Network Rail (so pretty much the M25 area). Is that not right? Do they work on any route?

You are right. The Network Rail card can only be used in London and the South East.

The only tip for cheap train tickets is book them well in advance. I got Donny for £16 return and Scunny for £23 return

Just to back up what I'm saying with a young persons rail card

You could get take the 0933-1124 (Outbound) & 1720-1911 (Inbound) for a grand total of £27.25 for the match from Kings X tomorrow.....I've just checked Trainline.com

How old are you James you could have purcahsed a YPR and still paid for your ticket to Scunny for less than £88

Don't live in London so it is a load extra.

Was originally going up with a freind but he pulled out yesterday so now going up by train. Hence I only booked yesterday

Minimum I could have gone up for was £70 but that would have also meant coming back at 1911 which will mean killing a couple of hours in Donny after the game & also I wouldn't get home till 12.....

Travelcards are definately worth getting though, think you get like a 1/3 off all fares

Anyone tried www.crosscountrytrains.co.uk as went up to Doncaster for £11.50 two weeks ago admitedly I bought it 4 days online before the saturday and had to leave on the 0810 service, no big shakes, but if you book last minute its going to be more, but they are worth a check if your planning for say Barnsley or Scunnie....pricing cheaper than nationalrail.co.uk!!
