Sir Les, I do not understand your dig as your example proves what ? remembering that the original point was "But the points you have at the end of the season is decided on how many goals you score and concede"

Please tell me you are not working on the total goals scored and conceded.

Paul - you are wrong - in 2009 Chelsea and Man Utd scored the same number of goals and conceded the same amount too.
So why weren't Chelsea joint champions?
Scoring more goals and conceding fewer helps you to win championships but it doesn't decide them.
You do understand that, don't you?

Maybe I dont understand your statement that seems to imply if you score more and concede less than everyone else, you are guaranteed to finish top?

Surely its about the individual results?

Right now Readings goal difference is +11 and they are 12th which is better than Norwichs +10 who are in 5th.

David, you are really stretching the point there, Liverpool won three more games and drew 1 fewer game than Chelsea did that season and in 2009, points were awarded after each game, not at the end of the season., so my point that "But the points you have at the end of the season is decided on how many goals you score and concede" is correct.

If you score 1 more goal than your opponent, you get three points, if you score the same amount of goals, you get 1 point and if you score fewer goals, you get no points and the team at the end of the season with the most points, wins the league.

You are one of a few people who don't seem to understand the point Paul is trying to make. In simple terms we are still getting results be it scoring fewer goals even with a 1.1 average in our last 10 matches we have improved our goal difference by +5, we've actually managed to hit the back of the net in the previous 4 matches and 7 times in the previous 10 matches which included 2 goaless draws (we are allowed those aren't we?) and a 1-0 defeat at Norwich when we down to 10 men for half the match.

So am I wearing rose tinted glasses maybe, if you fancy purchasing a pair they are not half bad because when I look through them the league table says we are still top of the league.

Maybe you should read through some of the threads since the Preston match to get a better understanding.

agreed, to a point, but points have never been awarded at the end of a season have they.

How many points do think it will take to win promotion this season Paul?

One more than the team in Second and third place.

Oh come on now Paul play the game how many points do you think it will take to get promotion?

I know you like to look at form over the past 10 matches (lets say league matches and forget the FA Cup game shall we) so I was wondering what points total our this same form in the league would give us till the end of the season.

I got a 86.5 we will call it 86 for your benefit.....do you think this will be a big enough total to see us promoted?
