slightly unfair mate, though I note you are kind enough to ket Kaspers keep his place until he ****s up again. Kaspars can make mistakes but is generally solid. He's much more in the Shittu mould than Matt. I usually fancy him for any 50 50 in the air. But by replacing him with Dan I fear all you'd do is lose pace.

I've already stated on this thread that Gorkss is generally solid, but what's the point in having competition if you can still make mistakes and continue to be picked?

It's just an opinion of mine that Dan is stronger in the air. He's a beast.

You mention pace, but that sounds as if you are saying Gorkss has some? Ok, he can match strikers in this league for pace.

Unfortunately those strikers are Jon Parkin and...That's probably it.

Yeah but what you chaps don't realise is that you need a team. It is a long long season and we are only half way through, we are picking up injuries all the time.

What happens when Gorkss or Connolly gets injuried? it will happen, and that is when you need someone solid to come in such as Shittu.

Do you think Derry and Hill will make 46 games? no chance because come late Feb/early March the fitness levels kick in and you need to rest players.

Believe me Shittu is a good signing as a stop gap player as we will get injuries.

It would be the fair way, but why would Dan leave a regular starting place at 'Wall, only to sit on the bench for us?

Warnock is not going to change the centre back pairing just fit Shittu in! We've been superb at the back so far and he won't change that, Shittu is just going to be for cover IMO!

We'll have to wait and see about Dan circa 2011 in the air - his world cup didn't auger well but that is a bit unfair comparison to what will face him here. I admit I have serious doubts about him.

Kaspars pace does not disturb me. He tries and does pretty well at staying in position most of the time so is not called on for flashes of speed very often. When he does more often that not he will get a foot in. Decent player is our Kaspars.

Again, I am not saying I don't rate Kaspars. But I'm sure that Dan didn't come here to pick splinters out his ####. He'll be pushing to take on of those CB slots, and not only do I feel Gorkss' is the one more open for grabs (both Dan and Gorkss have similar atributes), but it would also be my personal preference. This is due to how highly I rate Connolly.

If you read and listern to the comments NW made in the media after the Burnley game he said that he didin't have enough on the bench to win the game. After the Bristol game he said we didin't have enough on the bench to stop the equaliser as Gorrks lost his man and maybe lost concentration. If we had decent back up a CB sub could have been bought on.

Sh.ittu will be sub, Routlegde will replace Mackie with PVM as sub/cover for Faurlin/Tarbs and Miller will be cover for HH in the outset, but once proven will be first choice. 4-2-3-1 formation will not change. One thing we must admire about NW is that he sticks with a winning team/formula and only makes changes due to suspension or injury. Its worked thus far. so he won't change it.

for me id have connolly in over shittu but i feel connolly isnt as good as being said on here.

ill agree he reads the game well but sometimes he is hesitant and it costs us.. with gorkks you know he is slow but he is our stronger defender, wins everything in the air and puts himself in the thick of it.

for me we need a clarke carlisle.. who for me has abit more about him than MC.

shittu for me would only get a game if injury or suspension. if he gets in and shines (regardless of who he's come in for) he then has to stay. even if thats a shittu / gorkks partnership.

i vaguely remember damion stewart and gorkks partnership being quite good one season.

We have a good defence because the players complement and work well together. All five of them.

Gorkks is more active. Usually marks the more dangerous header incl. set pieces. Puts in more tackles, more clearing headers, more blocks.......Connolly sweeps up and distributes better. It is a good combination.

Personally I think Gorkks is the more important of the two, the way we play, but Shittu is more obvious cover for Gorkks than he is for Connolly.

If connolly dropped for any other C.B at our club would be a mistake and a massive step backwards,best defender we have let alone for Big Dan I feel Dan is now a spent force, Great when with us 1st time dont think he should come back

Why would Warnock drop Connolly, how long a run did Ephriam get despite being on a poor run form and Connolly is hardly in the same position as that.

out of the two gorrks is better for what a defender should do, solid in the tackle immense in the air and always gives 110%.
yes mc is good on the deck but at times he takes too long and can get us in to trouble by not getting rid, he also gives far too many silly freekicks away and as ive said before we will get punished at this level and in the prem for those. for someone his height he is not that great in the air but as people have said gorkss does the hard work( marking, clearing the ball, tackles) and mc sweeps up and i think this partnership works very well.
so why bring in shittu and upset the spine of the team? if he does come let him sit on the bench and try and impress in training.
as for people banging on about pace at centerhalf name me a class centerhalf who had pace? CB is about postioning, awareness and timing not being fast.
gorkss is quality people stop getting on his back
