Maybe because signing Kitson on loan is better than signing someone else on a permanent deal.

Last season we signed Pellicori on a permanent but got Simpson on loan and we all know what was the better deal for the club.

NEIL WARNOCK says he will consider himself a failure if his rebuilding of the team for next season leads him to recruit more than one loan signing.

Rangers have made full use of hired hands this season and have even had more than they could field at any one time.

The Rangers boss says that is not what he wants next year because he wants players committed to longer term futures with the club.

“I would be very surprised if I've got more than one loan player at any time next season. Very surprised,” he said.

“It means I won't have done my job properly or been a little bit unlucky in the summer, because I don't want loan players.

Old article and his opinion may have changed but from that I get the feeling he'd accept one loan player but no more.

I only think he is going to do it as his original targets didn't come off and am sure he would rather sign them on a perm.

Assuming we bring in one striker and he is on loan that will mean that we will only have one recognised out and out striker on our books who is any good - and he is Helguson, a player who I've never actually minded but who is nevertheless injury prone, liable to miss a fair number of chances and 33 years old. I guess there are those who will be happy with that. Guess we just have to disagree.

Its a fair point Goddard but can you explain this to me: we apparently enquire about strikers such as Kitson who were purchased for £5m and then we baulk at their wages. But given the ludicrous state of player wages wasn't it obvious that Kitson/ Roberts et al were going to be on much bigger wages than anyone at our club? If that rules them out, why bother going through the tortuous process of trying to sign them, which may only distract us from more realistic targets? Are we really expecting a modern day footballer to say "yeah, sure, I'll take a 50% cut in my wages to come and play for QPR"? I appreciate we are all just going on hearsay and no doubt there is more to it all than this, but on the face of it none of our painfully unproductive transfer activity makes much sense.

Although I do understand what you are saying. Let's see how he feels about it when he doesn't play again until next year and what he thinks he should be worth from then onwards.

Regarding your first point, I would imagine that stories of not being able to pay the required salaries, are more than likely made up by the press, as is most of the stuff they produce. I simply cannot imagine talks taking place prior to having a very good idea as to what wages are being expected / offered.

IF you are Dave Kitson and IF you are on £30k pw, then definitely. It's not our fault if people are currently paying him more than he's worth. Lets face it, the bloke can't get into the Stoke team. Although I do understand what you are saying. Let's see how he feels about it when he doesn't play again until next year and what he thinks he should be worth from then onwards.

In that case,

1) Probably not much chance at all. Although I do feel that attitudes of players will change in the near future.

2) What would they know, that is worth knowing. We can all make up a story.
I certainly wouldn't know what players are earning, from our club or others. To be honest, I'm not convinced that the jounalists do, let alone people who wish to exaggerate their importance by claiming to.
