some people forget he was hit with that fever last year and he was never put in a stable position. he was always the defender who would be changed to fill in for anyone with suspention or injury and i think he did very well at that when asked to, LB one week, CB the next and the occasional RB. If put in one position and kept their with the same back four i think he will show some real class at the back.

I can only echo what others have said. He didnt have a whole season last year, yet when he is centre back, the whole back 4 is more organised. Sticks a foot in and is decent on the ball. Given games, will be very good.

As for Wenger never getting it wrong, wasnt Diara there, went for 20mil in the end, Bentley, Upson, Campbell (sold him, then got him back), Manninger, Pennant (to an extent) He ballsed up Wright and Jeffers.

As i'm prob in the minority on here, in the fact that i dont rate matthew as highly as most.

I dont think wenger would have sold him to us if he thought that he would have a future as a prem player.

Wenger to me is a very shrewed judge of a player, has he ever released or sold any of his youth team players, and those players have since gone on to make it at the top level.

I could be wrong but i cant think of any.

Upson, Sidwell, Bentley, Pennant & Larsson didn't do too badly after being shown the door by Wenger.
