              Forget it.

"Speaking exclusively to Sportsmail, Beattie said: 'Whatever happened between me and the manager has all been swept under the carpet now, it's history, we've moved on.

'I have heard all the reports of interest from Blackburn, Wolves, Wigan and Sheffield United but I want to stay at Stoke and I am happy to stay.

'I know there has been interest from Championship clubs but, while I'm flattered, I want to play in the Premier League. I last played in the championship two years ago and I don't really want to go back.

'The Premier League is what it's all about
and I'm confident I can still ply my trade there - and with Stoke."

James Beattie is ready to snub the advances of Blackburn and Sheffield United and fight for his place at Stoke City. He insists the rift between him and Pulis is no more.

So to sum up the striker links...

Beattie - "I is a Prem player, it's the only place to be - innit".

Hooper - Gone to Celtic for the big arena and Champions League football. (unlucky Gary!)

                Henderson - Injured for 6 weeks/months.

Hulse - Wanted by Blackpool (see Beattie)

Jon Stead - Possible, not great, but decent enough target man.

Ebanks Blake - Possible(?) He'd be my (realistic) choice, but probably plenty of other clubs too.

There are other from lower down the leagues, like Lefondre

Not that many to choose from, if we're being realistic here.
                And we want 2.

Great to see that you are back. Good summer?

Think you've summed things up rather well. I'd like Ebanks-Blake or even Jason Scotland. Stead would be a good addition despite what some say - most Ipswich fans would in all probability prefer Stead to Priskin - surely - especially as Connor Wickham is injured and will miss the start of the season.

Thanks for that Goddard. Interesting and actually shows why it's difficult to bring a striker in. If we do want one it'll be stead or if we push boat out, someone like ebanks-blake.

Thanks... fine thanks, and good luck with the mod thing, again!

Forgot about Jason Scotland, he'd be very decent.
I understand the panic for a striker or two... but it's clearly proving harder than Warnock first thought.
Even since writing my post, it's just come up on SSN that Stead is talking to Blackpool today.

                        Gets harder every year.
Player Power rules... "keeping my options open", etc..

                          Not just Stead to Blackpool.

.....And Jon Walters... wanted by Stoke now.

Premier League club comes knocking, that's us out of any race.

Maybe Henderson's "injury" isn't so bad as nothing on sheffield official site....6 month injury to one of their best players......even our official site would have it up by now

The Premiership has become a league within a league within a league. So many teams don't need to try and break into the top 10 they just need to finish 17th meaning it no longer matters what happens against the likes of Chelsea or United it matters how they do against those other sides. It's like having a division between the Championship and the Premiership and as long as you fill your team with players good enough to beat those fellow teams you'll stay up. Only the teams who are prepared to buy "Premiership" players will break into the top 10.

Blackpool vs Wigan or Wolves vs Stoke is only Premiership football in name.

As long as their name is in The Suns Dream Team list, they're happy.
                                Or a Pannini Sticker Album.

Wearing the badge that says you are a Premier League Footballer, and being in the same league as Stevie-G, Lamps, JT, Wazza, Jamo and SWP etc... is more important for most of them than actually getting a game of football every week.

And most of them are millionaires already anyway.... somehow.
And for me, James Beattie sums it up.

Something has gone badly wrong with football in this country, but the shambles at the World Cup will soon be forgotten when "The Best League In The World" kicks off in a couple of weeks, and you get the 100mph end to end games that thrill the planet.
End to end stuff... mainly because teams can't keep the ball for very long. Apart from Arsenal, and they get the **** taken out of them for not winning a trophy, being lightweight, and trying to "walk the ball into the net".
I hope they do it this year. Englands shame at the World Cup has changed my mind about that.

                                But back to the point.
the main thing is..... very average players in The Premier League = Celebrities and ££££££££ Kerching.
