The best candidate is Harry Redknapp but the FA will never go for him and I don't see him leaving Tottenham after doing so well in his first season.

Personally I would go with Stuart Pearce. He has the respect of the players and the fans, he's been around the England set up for a while now and he knows all the young players coming through very well having managed them at under 21's.

Where was the Pearce of old though,fist clenched veins popping out his neck screaming at players demanding more passion? Capello got it tactically wrong 4 times and for £6m a year thats a pish take.

Carlos Quieroz is the Portugal coach. Born and bred in Lisbon! Though Scolari did have the job in 2006.

Redknapp or Hodgson would be ideal candidates for the job but the FA won't touch Redknapp with a Brian Clough shaped bargepole and Hodgson just isn't sexy enough (sorry Woy!)

Also if neither want it maybe Brian Blisset. He has a great voice and he could really rally the troops.

hodgson is a tactically astute coach but the problem is the same as with capello - his club successes are built on long weeks and months practice on the training pitch drilling players so they know exactly what to do without thinking about it. at international level you don't have that sort of time (unless like spain, or germany to an extent, the basis of the side all play for the same club) so you've got to whip a side up quickly, play to their strengths and inspire them. redknapp would be ideal i think but i doubt it'll happen

Nodge I do know who the portugal coach is..if you read what he said he said portugal have always had a portuguese coach.
