Also from that World Cup Scotland who beat Holland but couldn't beat Peru.
Same World Cup for me....1978 Peru in their white shirts and red diaganol stripe v Scotland - Joe Jordan put the Scots 1-0 up but they lost 3-1. Also the final, Argentina v Netherlands....streamers everywhere! Kempes got the golden boot (if it existed back then?)....The whole event missed England tho!!

'78 for me as well. Was 10 years old.

The Holland/Scotland game was the stand out one for me and Gemmil's goal.

Also Peru's dodginess in helping Argentina through.

1974. Got my mum to write my teacher a note to say I had a "fictional" dentist appointment and have to leave school early. Ran home and watched the opening ceremony.

Tournament only had about 16 teams and was over in a fortnight. Spent most of that time "visiting dentists" and running out of school early or not turning up at all as ITV did a highlight programme every morning with Brian Moore.

Both Dad and the Truancy Officer were not happy.
