    What constitutes a marquee signing?

For some it seems Gary Hooper would fit that bill but IMO the online community are not representative of the overall fan bases opinions. I do believe we will spend big on a striker or 2 this summer. Well maybe that is wishful thinking but if we are going to stand a chance of promotion then we have too.

I think Taarabt would be a marquee signing but that will not appease many fans, nor will Hooper IMO contary to belief on here. What/who constitutes a marquee signing how much are we talking about in outlay or is Hooper the marquee signing?

Hooper 's an average player at best - shocking at Southend. If this is what we're supposed to wet ourselves over before renewing then god help us.

Have to admit of all the rumours so far nothing has really excited me.... I know Tarrabt, Hooper etc have been mentioned but I think this is unlikely.

Clint Hill, Neil Danns and Harte doesn't really over joy me :-/

However I guess a marquee signing would raise peoples expectations and hopes, we need a star player and I would go for Tarrabt :-D

I would consider a quality player from the premiership that would be dropping down division because thety wanted to be part of the 'project' a marquee signing, some one like Beattie or Nugent.

Good question W12. Agree that because we are all obsessive someone like Gary Hooper seems like a great signing but to someone who goes to a few games a season might well turn round if he is our biggest signing and say "oh, so some striker from mighty s****horpe I've never even heard of." Really agree that if they are to get a rush on season ticket sales and create a real buzz similar to when the take over first took place they will need a marquee signing - and that does mean at least one player of a beattie, Kitson sort of standing. Good post W12

You are too funny. Plenty of top players have been at these little clubs before. Hooper was 18 at Scunny. 43 goals in 79 games would suggest he's a natural finisher.

Benny mate if that post was aimed at me I am one of those desperate for Hoops to sign for us - look at the aviator. I was just agreeing with W12 that the club does need to sign one "name" if it is to get a bit of passing traffic next season and great tho Hoops is as a player he is not a "name". We need someone else as well, that's all.

a marquee signing to me is someone who wants to play for the shirt.....didn't have that many doing that last season.
