i think the madjeski is actually a decent new stadium that comes across soulless because of its out of town location and the fact its full of plastics priicks, a madjeski type stadium in or around shepherds bush would have a completely different feel.
the madjeski is quite unique in the fact it can be expanded bye approx 10.000 by simply sitting another tier on top, it was designed for this from new and if you look around the outer concourse it has large steel plates spread around the floor, these are anchorage points for an extra tier and this can be done from start to finish during the close season, a little bit over ambitious by john madjeski but still very clever.

Shuttle bus would not be needed if we acquire BBc site.

Food kiosk I cannot comment on as I was sitting behind the dug out & it was very efficient and fast moving.

Plenty of toilets straight in & out.

Plenty of leg room & actually had padded seats(not sure if this is all round the ground or just their).

Soooooo maybe you are judging it on the away section which would be of no concern to us if it was our home ground.

The actual stadium is ok, although the facilities for away supporters is not very good. However, the rest of the reading experience was just a rip off, £8 to park or get on an overpriced bus. Walk along dual carriage ways to get out and no shops or pubs anywhere near. Nightmare traffic to get to the motorway, which was gridlocked getting there and a joke to find, do to 'juction improvements' on the way home.I though last night, give me Loftus Road with its faults over this any day.

I said sometime ago on this board that it is exactly the type of stadium QPR should look at if we moved.

People on this board talk some rubbish about 30, 40 k stadium. 25k is max we would ever need even in the prem.

I have been to Madjeski a number of times now - probably more than most of those stating its a soul-less bowl with no atmosphere. EVERY time I have been there it has had double the atmosphere LR has had in recent years apart from the Oldham game.


The facilities are excellent and the queues are not that bad at all. The only reason you queue less at LR is because the stadium is half empty!! The home fans are probably not queuing as much.

It is also not miles from anywhere - you can walk into town from there and has a huge housing estate over the road....

I think people are mixing up Reading fans and team with the quality of their stadium - they are seperate debates.

The stadium (and the Rugby Ground) was named after Robert Owen Loftus Versfeld, the founder of organized sports in Pretoria, South Africa.

Ellerslie is a suburb of Auckland, New Zealand.
Bloemfontaine is in South Africa.
There's Australia Road, South Africa Road, Canada Way, Commonwealth Road etc...


It's all streets named after the Commonwealth around our ground.

White City is known as the Commonwealth Estate hence the names of the Blocks & Roads.

History is more than likely tied to the Olympic Stadium you can see in my Avator.

I would like a stadium like theirs, but as long as it is not moved too far away from where we are now. I was commenting on the experience of last night and would put up with the shortfalls of LR (as a stadium) as it is now because of having the pubs, shops and transport links that we currently have. If offered QPR at the Madjeski or at LR as a straight choice, I would take LR.

Our club needs to progress and grow, Loftus is history, very little can be done to expand, we need a new bigger stadium, for our great fans, a 28k stadium built in the white city area would be fantastic for club and fans, with a provision to expand if need be.

The club need to start planning now, if they have aspirations for prem league football.

Also very supprised this was not mentioned in the meeting with Amit.

I keep hearing and reading comments like this, but seriously, how much atmosphere and singing is there at Loftus Road on a typical matchday? Forget the rare games like Birmingham last season or the S/F against Oldham, I am talking about the games like Plymouth last week or at least half the other games this season or last.

As for the Madjeski stadium, yes, it may be near the motorway, but if QPR did build on the BBC land it would be a perfect location.

Don't know when you started going to QPR, but in the mid-70s, games at LR often attracted gates of more than 25,000 and this at a time when attendances all around the country were quite low, due to crowd trouble and lack of good facilities, comfort etc.

I think a 25-30,000 capacity Madjeksi type stadium on the BBC land would be a great idea and would fill up on a regular basis if QPR were a decent Premier League side.

Look at how many fans Southampton now get at St Mary's.

In the 80s & 90s they struggled to attract 19,000 to fill the Dell.

You do not build a stadium to a capacity that you could meet 5 times a season. You build it to a level that you can fill or almost fill most of the time.

Liverpool could fill 100,000 against United and Everton - do you think that's what they should build?

Do you want a stadium like Blackburns, Boltons, Wigans...where it is full of empty seats for all but 5 games a season?

A man who talks sense. It is absolutely tailor made for us to do this properly with the plots of land nearby & apparently becoming available (BBC & Unigate) excellent transport links into the area,ok the roads are not the best but we have at least 5 train / tube stations in the very near vicinity that would cater for thousands of fans. Wonderful idea in my opinion.
