In NHL they’re playing 84 games in the regular season and the playoffs, with more games, follows. They’re rarely resting players, often only if they’re injured. How is that possible when ”some managers” in the Championship needs to rest players playing more than half of that and, also having a couple of international breaks during the season when most players are not directly involved. It’s a delusional mindvirus making us worse than we are. Play our best players when they’re available. Stop tinkering.

Ice Hockey works in shifts and isn't a great comparison. Sometimes a shift is only on the ice for less than a minute. Tennis is also a non-contact sport and doesn't quite compare either.
I agree with the general argument about not overly rotating players but the comparisons need to be with other football clubs rather than different sports. It would be interesting to see data on each team in the EFL's selections.

I used to think the same about ice hockey, then I started going and watching games and realized those guys really bust a gut.
Burrell, may not be naturally gifted with world class talent, but he looks like he sprints a marathon every game, never gives up on anything and never complains.
That is a pro I can get behind, plus he just completed 90+ minutes after being away on international duty.

American sports generally have a rotation of players during the match so if you could install that into football, then managers will rest players. Also the argument of football used to have only 2 subs only, playing the same 11 most times is also now obsolete because football has gone from skilled players to now athletes. Much more is demanding from the players physically now. However with all that said, you have to factor in team cohesion and regular football all helps players play better so resting them can also affect the players and the team

NHL covers 2.5~ miles a game, Tennis 3, football is 7~
NHL you play for 15min-25min a game.
You are usually in for 80s and then have a 4min break while the other rotations play.
NHL
And if you read the stats here:
The highest mean percentages of time spent by a player in a game were on a two foot glide (39.0%), a cruise stride (16.2%), medium intensity skating (10.0%), a struggle for puck or position (9.8%), and low intensity skating (7.8%).
This even means that for upto 39% of the 2.5 miles they cover is gliding and not putting effort into their movement at all.
So to answer the question, it's just a different endurance and impact on body with lots of breaks.
