  • Time to curtail the 'project'

Buy 'em cheap and make a profit. Nourry's mantra, it seems. Pointless if we go down-or is that the plan?? Think we can spend a lot more in League 1. But in any case, no good signing injury prone, unfit players. Good that we've signed a few reasonable players yesterday. Hope we get one or two more, or League 1 is where we are headed.
What is worrying is the players need time to gel and become mates with each other. Hope splits in the camp don't develop.
Personally I think Nourry is unsuited to the role he holds-too young and inexperienced, obsessed with stats and analytics. Than way of working served us weell with Madsen and Celar, didn't it?

Why the #### would we plan to go down, we’ve got a decent squad now & get that disgraceful performance out the way & start again fresh against Charlton, only 3 games gone FFS, need to chill out

Agree but we need a real up for it performance on Saturday whatever the result. Otherwise the negativity will seem justified. Tbh can’t see it with JS hope I’m very wrong

In theory, the project could work. But it needs careful planning, a good business brain and an in depth knowledge of football, particularly The Championship.
Christian is a "suit" and our board/owners were sold.
Regardless of (or mabe in view of) yesterdays' signings, perhaps Christian's time is up.

The project plan is necessary for a club like us to progress but it is no quick fix. Takes some years to reap benefits. Look at likes of Brentford, Bournemouth and Brighton. None of them were overnight successes and Brighton came from no ground and finishing second bottom of entire league. We are coming off decades of mismanagement and are relatively early on in the process. We are actually doing well in some ways. Great training facility, a number of players 24 or less who have the potential to improve and be sold at a profit. Very different to even a couple of years ago. Just need some oomph on the pitch at the moment.

            We've done Harry's Dad's Army

We cant afford a team of quality championship players in their prime

We have no alternative but to develop young hungry players, alongside a splattering of the above to support them. Some youngsters will swim and some will drown.

"The project" sounds inspired. Buy young exciting players sell them for a good profit after a couple of years, reinvest in the team, rinse and repeat. 5 years down the line your tream is worth 100million and everyone is happy.
If it was that easy surely every team outside of the Premiership would be adopting it??

If your team consists of players constantly injured, weak as pi$$ or simply not good enough then surely "The Project" is failing and someone should be held accountable?

A year ago I called Nourry "an egotist, playing championship manager with our club". That was over the top and not a very balanced opinion. I genuinely feel he is trying to do the best for the club, the last few signings are genuinely exciting, and despite the horror result on Saturday I'm looking forward to our upcoming games.

What I did say then was "we will have a a clearer picture In 2 years time". Well we are 1 year down the line and things aren't much clearer tbh. I feel "The Project" could still go either way. In a years time we might be 100% behind it, or we might be waving as Nourry leaves the club permanently.

It is a good thing to have a plan and want all teams in the club to play a certain way but the most important thing is to play well and win football matches. If you play well and win football matches your players will look better and should improve , as winning builds confidence, that way you should be able to make money on player sales. The manager should be able to pick the team and adapt tactics during the game and not stick to what Nourry says if its to the detriment of the team winning games. For example , playing Joe Walsh and trying to pass out from the back , it won't work because Walsh is too nervous and is poor with the ball at his feet. The club need to stop throwing cup games and putting out younsters as this sends out bad signals to the rest of the players and fans that we don't care about winning football matches. If any of our youngsters are good enough , gradually introduce them into the team so you don't damage their confidence.
The most important thing for a club like ours with little money is to have players that will give a hundred percent and work hard but we cannot do that with a squad that is'nt even fit to play 90 mins at the start of the season. Williams is obviously out of his depth and needs to go , preferably Nourry with him if it is all true about him trying to tell JS what players to play etc.
