  • Perennial question

Suppose you are employed as a 'coach' by a D o F and you find the squad are not the players you would have chosen and you cannot make anything of them.
I still prefer a manager given a budget for his own players .
Suppose also that the D o F has no experience in playing , coaching or managing. I ask rhetorically.

You resign as a coach citing "family reasons" and head back home. But you've taken the job and do everything to see it through, without going behind the club's back.

I doubt JS knew anything about the players thats we've brought it, but saw the data results! But if we stay up and we sell our manager for £500k then happy days. Im sure JS has a few players he would like to bring in, but that will likely need some Eze money. I'm sure the players we've already brought in and re-signed have done our budget already.

He'll see the season out and hopefully get us us an 8-12th finish and a few players who might be sellable next summer.

Whoever is in charge, they will be gone by next Christmas, whether they have their own players or not. these are the facts I am afraid, 1 year 3 month is the average over the last 56 years.

I do not see anything different with this very uninspiring unknown French geezer.
I have supported Rangers for 55 seasons, since March 1969.

I played sunday league football today.

Clearly I was the best player on the pitch.

I scored 5 and made 7 last ditch tackles.

We lost 5-0 but the rest of my team were sh it!

They're not "managers" anymore, they're "Head Coaches" - they are required to belt-up, toe the company line, shut up, put their best foot forward and play the hand they're dealt.

To be honest, I'm not sure even "coach" is the correct terminology. I doubt there are many who can significantly coach and develop a senior player, they pick a team and formation and hope for the best I reckon. Their main role is keeping 25 overpaid tarts focused, engaged and all pulling in the same direction.

As mentioned above, they come and go every year or so and it puzzles me why fans get so het up and defensive about them? Our fortunes next season hinge on having a dynamic energetic midfield and a clinical attack - any Championship team with that in place will finish in top 6 irrespective of who the gaffer is.

To be fair, we had never heard of Gordon Jago….but Stephen’s honeymoon period will last to 3pm on 9th August.

Got to give the guy a fair chance and get behind him. I am optimistic (reasonably). My only worry is that the rigours of the Championship are something that he doesn't yet fully understand. Christian should have made sure that Julien's first job was to absolutely understand that. Football is only a part of the equation.
