  • Harry Murphy Gone

QPR Development Squad midfielder Harry Murphy will leave the club following the expiry of his contract this summer.

Murphy, 21, has been at Rangers since he was 10 and recently captained our Dev Squad to Premier League Cup success.

QPR CEO Christian Nourry said: “It is with a lot of emotion that we announce the departure of Harry from QPR today.

"Having joined the club at just 10 years old, he has written his name into the QPR history books with a season where he achieved the most goal contributions for the club at Under-21 level and captained the side to an inaugural Premier League Cup win last week, in a final where he performed majestically.

Only seen him playing in person in the final - thought his corners free kick and shooting very good but he didn’t influence the play as much as Tuck or Morgan did. He probably ought to have gone on loan by now so not too surprised by this decision and we can’t keep everybody

We could have offered a contract and send him on loan for a season. A year of first team football in a lower division can make a huge difference. Hope we will not be sorry following today decision.

Maybe he wanted to leave- at 21 he needs to move forward and he is in a position that we have a fair few options in. But yes we could have loaned him out.

Not surprised. Sutton, Morgan and Bennie, all younger, have jumped ahead of him this year.

Three years in development squad. Not going on loan, big mistake.

Best decision for both parties. He's not going to break into out first team. Who do you drop? Unfortunately I don't see him picking up a contract at this level but can see him in league 1 if he gets the right players around him. Looks a bit too small and not sure he's that quick. Love to see him have a good career. Best of luck Harry.

I wish him the very best, and like Smyth, the door is always open if he does well over the next three years. He may be a very good free signing for us when his next contract expires. Sometimes you have to take a step back to go forward in the future.

can't think of many youth players we have released who have gone on to have a championship level career. Bowler , Laurent, after that .......

I take your point, but wouldn't put Bowler in that category as we sold him to Everton. The only one that jump out to me was Marcus Bean, but think he only played L1 after being let go. But yeah, released under the age of 21yrs and Im struggling beyond Smyth. Perhaps Lee Camp and Luongo.

Camp wasn't ours iirc. Didn't he join on loan?

Luongo came from swindon with superstar ben gladwin!! Awful footballer!

Would of been around the first team if he had any promise, especially at 21 makes for an easy decision for the club. Wish him the best for the future.
