  • 7 out of contract players in the summer

Adomah, Ball, Barbet, Barnes, Odebajo, Owen, Wallace.

I would certainly like to keep Adomah & Barbet and would consider 1 year deals for Wallace and Odebajo if unable to sign better wing backs. Ball is ok as cover, but we have a number of CMs, including Field who does pretty much the same job.

I would let both Barnes and Owens go in January if possible.

Which ones would you offer extensions to?

That's a great topic Stan, I agree Barnes and Owens to go, the others offer value to the team, but to be honest, I'm more concerned about what is going to happen in the short term, IE in the next 6 weeks or so!!! It's scary how good or bad we may be looking by mid January with the way the walking wounded are at the moment, our season will probably be defined in this period, my heart as always says it will all be ok , but the head knows it's going to be the most difficult part of the season for us, if we can get through it in a half decent fashion we should be there or thereabouts come May, we are not owed anything by the football god's, so it's cross fingers, hide behind the cushions, and hope for the best!!

Having watched Charlie Owen for the first time in an U23 game a few weeks ago on Recast I was very impressed in his performance considering he’s been injured for a couple of years.

He played a holding M/F role and has ‘bite in the tackle ‘and is a very tidy passer of the ball,I would hope the club offer him another contract if he can stay injury free.

I guess it's an assumption that the management team are monitoring all players at all levels in the club, and will know inside out the players we need and the players we shift on

Is there a diamond in the rough lurking in the shadows somewhere in the club? I hope so!!!

Difficult to assess things before any January transfer business is done. Wouldn't take a lot of incomings to make me feel all of the out-of-contract outfield players above could go though. Even if they stayed I'd not see any of them as part of the first XI for 22/23 so its debatable if they'd even want to stay.

I certainly get the vibe he'll be given every opportunity to prove himself as he seems highly rated within the club too. Definitely worth another year as you say.

I'd probably have a clear out of most of those players. If we were to go up then I'd just keep Albert out of those players. Not much ability with the rest to step up. In the championship I'd probably add barbet, Wallace too injury prone
I played sunday league football today.

Clearly I was the best player on the pitch.

I scored 5 and made 7 last ditch tackles.

We lost 5-0 but the rest of my team were sh it!

One year extension for uncle as he is about 50 ,one year extension for Moses ,ditto for Wallace as he is always injured. Definitely give Barbet a new 1 year contract

Wallace will be 35 by the start of next season and even if we're still in the championship I'm sure we'll upgrade in the summer. I think he'll leave.

Kristian Pedersen of Birmingham at Left Back has always looked very decent defensively and carrying the ball forwards, still only 27 and out of contract end of the season.

You could be right ,and I guess much will depend on our owners ambition (within FP rules) to get promoted next season .

                          Or promoted this season.

I wouldnt be surprised to see quite a few players joining in Jan for a push this season. It's there for the taking and if it doesnt come off then the books can be rebalanced in the summer with a few departures. If we cant raise £20m in the summer with two or three sales then something is very wrong.

I can't see any significant business happening. The days of Casino Financing are long gone and rightly so. Anyway, that's another thread.... None of the out-of-contract players look critical to the potential success of 22/23 season. Doesn't mean they're not wanted or don't have a part to play in a 25-man squad though. However, none of them are worth an improved contract so the assumption must be that they will all sling their hooks.
Thinking about it, I think DOF should table some sort of offer to all of them now and give them all until Mid Jan to commit - any that don't commit can take a hike in January..... free up money and squad numbers for players who are here for more than just a few months.
