  • QPR's FFP fine

I was just wondering, in light of FIFA fining chelsea £450 k ish for a completely different offence how does our fine of £40 Million by the EFL stacķ up against how other clubs have been fined?...I hear mention of Brum being investigated for FFP breaches and I think I heard that Man City are being looked at by EPL (might be wrong on last bit)...but has amy other team been fined anything near 40 Million or more?

to be fair, we didn't really get fined £42m... our punishment was dressed up as that, but the real fine was in the region of £15m, more than half of the punishment was the conversion of debt into shares (which we had been doing in any case) and the scheduling of the debt repayment over 10 years without interest, means that it's really less than the advertised £20m when expressed in today's money.

that said, it's a big punishment and bigger than anything that any british club has ever had.

sheff weds are probably also in the brown stuff, their accounts for the last couple of years don't look too great.

if you have time, the article below is worth a read.

Thanks for replies. I'm not aware of any club being punished financially more than our fine....seems a bit wrong when you think bigger clubs doing same thing but the biggest fine (that ai know of) is handed to a relatively small club...almost like there was some sort of agenda but eh we did do wrong so can't really complain.

it's kind of difficult... two things to bear in mind:

1 - the rules we broke (and tbf we knowingly broke) were probably the harshest rules in world football at the time.
2 - bigger clubs (like man city, psg etc) have richer owners, higher profiles, bigger global reach etc and much more leverage.

i don't honestly think that there was an agenda against us (and even if there was, imo we didn't exactly help ourselves by spending way beyond our means, when we knew what the rules were). the bigger problem is that there wasn't a clear, common understanding of what financial fair play meant (fair play implies a common unbiased playing field - ffp doesn't do that, it does basically the opposite - it entrenches advantage to clubs with higher incomes) and that the rules were not consistent between the various competitions.

qpr were the wrong team in the wrong place at the wrong time... and that's typical for us.
