Feeling a little Smug after yesterdays performance I thought I'd cheer Ipswich's fans up with this little piece.

    Would you take Magilton back?

After your winless start to the season would you take the man back now who you were so desperate to get rid off?
More often than fans like to revel in a manager’s / players demise after they have left when their own team is doing well but when the shoe is on the other foot things can go a little bit quiet (bit like us and Ian Holloways great start to the season with Blackpool)

After a slow start to the season caused by JM tinkering with a settled defence and unable to decide on his best starting XI; it now appears JM knows his best side and has stopped tinkering which may come as a surprise to you guys and as a result we are starting to reap the benefits.

JM has publicly slaughtered players including star midfielder Akos Buzsaky which raised a few eyebrows amongst R’s fans but instead of having a negative effect JM’s no nonsense approach to man management appears to be having a positive effect.

Since his arrival JM has added Jay Simpson (Arsenal) & Ben Watson (Wigan) to his squad both of whom have had an instant impact weighing in with 6 goals between them. The coming to form of Routledge, Buzsaky, Rowlands (though now out for the season) the enigmatic Adel Taarabt (scorer of the CCC goal of the season yesterday) and the inspirational JM/JG signing of Alejandro Faurlin have got R’s fans very excited because in Jim Magilton / John Gorman the fans are now starting to believe tactically we have a managerial set up to get the most out of these players flair and skill.

Magilton’s Rangers are now flying with fans comparing yesterday’s performance as throwback to 75/76, which I’m sure some of you older Town fans would appreciate is a massive compliment. If the R’s win their game in hand they are up into 4th, there is a real buzz around Shepherds Bush at the moment and IMO it is down to JM/JG. The football is fluid, our away form is the best it’s been in years and moral is high.

I’m a realist and I know things can change quickly in football and in all fairness JM was not a popular choice when he took over but he is proving his doubters wrong. I remember reading a lot of negative comments about JM from Ipswich fans and a lot of **** taking when he took over at QPR which goes with the territory but with hindsight maybe it was a bit premature on your fans part.

I sympathise with your fans and the mockery what is now known as ‘Roy Keane’s Ipswich’, you’ve gone from a team which no body minded and was always associated with good football to one everyone wants to see fail because of your manager (no other reason). My aim for starting this thread was to set the record straight on JM but please don’t take offence I have no axe to grind with Town fans.

Good Luck for the season, but I think we all know what needs to happen before that changes.

Have some faith we've been in form for a while now and we getting better all the time.

Yesterday was probably the best QPR performance you've ever seen played by the best QPR squad you can probably remember.....its not a purple patch trust me.

Yes every thing seems rosy for you at the minute but wait and see what happens when things start to go wrong.

              No way.

Last season was one of the worse, if not the worse, seasons of football I have ever seen.

We may be winless so far this year, but part of that I still believes comes down to the shabolic mess that Magilton left here.

I pity QPR when things go wrong, as they undoutbedly will.

Perhaps our players are simply just better than the ipswich ones!!

What JM is doing with us didnt work there because there players simply werent good enough to do what JM, and Gorman were trying to coach them...

When JM took over he was actually quoted as saying this and he said he pretty much should be considered a failure if he doesn't do better here with us than his tender at Ipswich.

Be honest who from the Ipswich starting XI would make ours, hasn't Keane spent about £5 million + already?

But would have we lost if we didn't have 2 players sent off?

Oh sorry I didn't realise its Jim Magiltons fault yolu are rooted to the bottom of the league after 12 games without a win?

under jim here when we were gd we were very gd, when we were bad we were very bad, my problem with him was the inconsistant performances, at least this year we are consistant consistantly bad! no i wouldnt want jim back but at least we were mid-table not thinking about a relegation battle! gd luck for the season i hope jim does well down there apart from when we play qpr of course!

                        &

For what it is worth W12 Ranger, when things were going bad here at Ipswich Jim was always
going to be a scapegoat whether he was a good or bad manager. The same thing is now happening to RK.. Some of the players are simply NOT fit enough to wear an ITFC shirt
and it hurts our fans more to say that than admit it so its always going to be down to the manager.

In addition to that the fact that Jim is doing well at QPR is not helping those fans here who cannot
come to terms with the fact that a lot of our player are rubbish. Your squad is far
mpore prepared than our old one and our new one is, thats why you are where you are
                        and good luck to you..

                        &

I'm really pleased Jim is starting to get things right. I think we were left in a position where he had to go. He has learned his mistakes with us and at a new club where he has no previous connection he seems to have found his feet. He came into manage us straight from our playing squad which was a bad move, he had friends and probably people he didn't like that may have influenced his decisions.

As I said I'm glad he is doing well and I will most definitely be giving him a cheer when QPR come to Town.

                        &

wouldn't take him back, Jim and ITFC's relationship hit breaking point. It was simply the same poor Ideas over and over. Maybe (and good for him) he has learn't from those mistakes and is using his eperiences to help him manage QPR. I still have faith in Roy. I think bringing another manager in now to a squad that Roy is trying to make his own would be a big mistake. Lets not forget he is here for a long term job we shouldn't keep hung up on the short term failings.

                            NEVER wanted JM to go.
Im not suprised qpr are going well at all. ITFC fans expected JM to guild us to promotion or at least the play offs. The big problem was we were not a top 6 best side on paper, 9th was in the mix of average teams in the div (thats us). We fans got tired of average and expected JM to preform well above average like Irvine did at Preston or coyle at burnley. What JM did with the players he had at the start of his reign to the squad at the end was quite good imo. He brought in Norris,Cevelli,Gio,Shumi, R wright and even mcauley was starting to look good under JM. He had some of the squad in place, and if given a new contract and the money that RK has been backed with i beleive we would be in the top 6 come may.

Now we need to get off RK back and give im time 2.

PS, dont say JM had time, bc im talking time with the ££s, b4 our squad was under average.

In answer to the orignal post, I'm pleased for JM and that he is doing ok for you right now. I do think some times our criticism of him on these boards went a little ott but then that's frustrated passion for you I guess. You have the benefit of a more experienced and probably wiser manager than the JM we had here...but that's what life is all about isn't it. Would I personally want him back?.....probably not a question I feel I could really answer easily, but one thing I do believe is that it would not be right for either Jim nor ITFC for him to come back. One has to move on in life and learn by the mistakes of the past....the guy, or footbal club for that matter, who hasn't made one...or two...or three...has yet to exist on the face of this planet. Good luck to you and good luck to Jim and I hope that by the time you get down to see us we may have got our act together.

Good luck to you at QPR is all I can say. In my opinion the trouble with Jim Magilton while he was manager at Ipswich Town was the fact he went from being 'one of the boys' to being someone in charge of them. In my book that doesn't work as results at Portman Road last season showed very clearly. He obviously had no control over the players whatsoever and it appeared to me that he always played his so-called 'mates' whether they deserved a place in the team or not. That wasn't good for the club or for him and so he had to go. At QPR he was in unknown territory and I'm happy it's working out for him and all QPR's fans. Just wish with all my heart things were different at Portman Road. Never mind, we'll just go on hoping for that elusive first win then perhaps things WILL change. I sincerely hope so.
