Agree that the "defensive mids" don't have to be negative positions. One can provide the cover in front of the centre halves but the other should be capable of instigating attacks and linking with Chery and forwards, albeit from a deeper position. If both can do that and take turns in sitting then all the better. I do not see that point in Henry playing there. He will receive the ball, look up and would rather play the ball two yards for a centre half than pass the ball forward. If he gets it back he passes to the other centre half. He also hardly makes any tackles in a game and just jockey's the opposition rather than presses in away that will regain possession.
A midfield of Luongo, Cousions and Chery, told to play positively would link up well and bring the forwards into the game without isolating them.

Thing is though, we did against Leeds and Cardiff. Ever since, it's just been poor. Can't understand what's changed.

Obviously the opposition managers watched those games and did their homework on us. I mean we're very predictable and one-dimensional, thus easy to prepare against, right?

As Stan says maybe other clubs just sussed us out straight away - that matched with playing toilet and differing team selection.

Shodipo plays an absolute blinder first game and gets dropped. That was the 1st baffling decision of the season. We beat Cardiff but that's not my point...

Whatever happened over the international break...

It was before the international break. Firstly at Barnsley where we may have been a bit unlucky, then PNE where we were abysmal. Did ok against Wigan. Blackburn was another bad game followed by Newcastle and Huddersfield. We played quite well against Leeds. Leeds started slowly but are improving. We beat Cardiff but then they are bottom.

IMO it's the midfield not knowing their roles. Signs were there against Preston as to how unorganised the midfield is.

That's a fair point Stan, and probably the case. But we don't even seem to be attempting to press any more, lack of plan b? Or is plan b defend, defend, defend?

                            - Not signing any wingers
                            - Not telling his wingers to track back and protect the full-backs, or get to the byline and cross the ball, two pretty elementary requirements from your men on the flanks
                            - Putting players out of position
                            - Spending £8-10 million on players and not using them
                            - Failing to encourage any creativity or imagination from his players, meaning they look to pass the ball backwards or sideways as soon as they receive it
                            - Making substitutions far too late in the match to influence things
                            - Failing to adapt to the opposition's style of play
                            - Playing Karl Henry every match, without fail
                            - Not giving Sandro a chance in the first team, despite being a former Brazilian international. Yes, he was crap in the Premiership for us, but is he any worse than the others?
                            - Playing one man up front every match, without fail
                            - A failure to learn to speak English fluently (his post-match interviews are practically incoherent) - are you convinced the players understand what he's saying?
                            - Getting rid of the only two leaders in the squad (Hill and Faurlin)

                            Need I go on?

There has to be something else going on. This is pure speculation.

This is just bigoted bol1ocks. he speaks perfectly well (how good's your Dutch?), albeit somewhat evasively in the interview.[/QUOTE]

Its simple. We had a pre season fitness edge which lasted for a couple of weeks in. Plus it only took a couple of weeks for everyone to suss out how one dimensional we are.

My only problem with JFH is that he isn't good enough. There was no evidence when he was appointed, and none has been forthcoming since. Just like all the other iffy calls, JFH did not appoint himself and in a just world others would carry the can along with him.
