When he gets his first goal then we'll see the best of him. One of those players

Lets see what he can do with a pre season under his belt
Yep people forget Austin took a while to get going for us. The rest is history.

This. I can only recall three or four useful balls behind the defence, creating a clear cut chance, all season. One from Polter which Philoips squandered.

Honestly don't think that's the issue. People see it differently but when you have luongo, faurlin both on 5 assists, Phillips and hoilett both creating and scoring, I wouldn't call the lack of offense from the midfield the issue.
Perhaps a striker who hasn't got the positional sense to get into goalscoring positions relative to what is necessary may be the issue. Remember, Austin managed 10 in just over 11 games with a midfield no better than this one.

Definitely feel this could be true, I think we just need the first goal to get the click between those behind him and him as to how he wants to receive the ball. Although I don't see him as the pure goalscorer we need. He can do well

I think Austin was a bit of a freak, we didn't know what we had as in he's a one man goal machine at any level. Given a run in the side and injury free I fully expect him to repeat it at Southampton. What I meant is we constantly seem to be playing on the break, we very rarely dominate a game and for me that starts in midfield. I personally think we are incredibly lightweight and don't rate our midfield unit at all

But that is a style of play isn't it? If you have the players for it, play on the break and take your chances. We do one of those things, we need to start taking our chances and I hope that Washington is the striker for that. If not, we can move him on, he's young, homegrown and fits the criteria for overinflated price.

                  Wow, talk about knee-jerk reaction.

Personally stand by what I said the other day, that Washington has done absolutely nothing since signing. However, people who disagreed with me had a fair point that he hasn't really had that much game time. He could improve given a run of games.

Not only a run of games, he needs a striking partner.

He can run and huff and puff all day but playing alone upfront is simply not his game.

Polter would be perfect wouldn't he? I see Washington as the smaller, nippier striker to run onto Polter's knock downs. Or at least a similar striker to Polter, perhaps with a bit more ability. I love Polter but he's very limited.

But then you're taking Chery out of the side (or playing him on the left and having no width) which I don't think is fair on him on a regular basis given how good he's been.

But Stan, JFH bought him knowing exactly what type of player he is and exactly what system he wanted to play ?
You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.

442 Diamond was the preferred formation in those games. His strike partner was generally one of Koulibaly (small but agile) or Angol (big and strongish)
