Just another point, if this Southend keeper is so great why the #### would he sign for us to sit on the bench for the next year or two?

Just a thought, could loan him back to Southend with an option to recall for the season and use Lumley as backup, then if Greeno gets injured we can call Bentley back.Originally posted by bakes8 View PostJust another point, if this Southend keeper is so great why the #### would he sign for us to sit on the bench for the next year or two?
I've seen a lot of Bentley (Southend are my local FL club) and he is a genuine talent, absolutely fantastic keeper

The obvious anser is money. At 10k a week, we'd be paying him 5 times what Southend are (probably). Virtually EVERY modern day professional footballer is a mercenary.Originally posted by bakes8 View PostJust another point, if this Southend keeper is so great why the #### would he sign for us to sit on the bench for the next year or two?
On the less depressing side -
He would learn loads from Green, making him better.
He'd be only 1 injury away from taking over as #1 from Green, then possession is 9/10th's......
As mentioned above we could loan him out with a 24 hour call back clause.
So plenty of why's (IMO)Last edited by QPR1976; 16-07-2015, 11:30 AM.

But why would he come here to sit on our bench for 1/2 years? if he's #### hot he'l go somewhere where he's first choice.

Because no Premiership side is going to put a Keeper from 4th tier straight into their starting XIOriginally posted by bakes8 View PostLike it as well.

So he's looking at the Championship and we're probably still one of the biggest payers, even with the new wage structure of between 10-20k
Do we even know if we're keen on him.....?

Very few 21 year old keepers are first choice in top divisions, scums keeper an exception, Southend keeper could learn of an England keeper, increase his wages and probably be number 1 in a year or so at a higher level.Originally posted by bakes8 View PostLike it as well.

Only seen the Southend keeper on TV, however he looks confident and a touch arrogant, 2 good traits for a top class goalkeeper.

CR on latest McCarthy situation
“Obviously Alex is a very good keeper and we see him as part of our future plans. But finances and economics sometimes dictate what happens. I think Alex, by his own admission, would look at Rob’s form last season and feel if he could reach those heights he’d be very happy,” said Ramsey.
"I think he knows it’s a difficult job ahead with regard to choosing a number one goalkeeper at the club. Rob has done nothing wrong and performed admirably for us last season. I think competition between keepers is good, but obviously Alex has his own situation to look at. At the moment I’m considering them both in contention to start the season and we’ll have to wait and see over the next few weeks what happens.”

I've had it on good authority from within the club that he did indeed cost only 2.65mil (as stated on Transfermarkt.co.uk and by many posters here.). No confirmation yet on whether the 3.5 mil relegation release clause exists but will let you all know.Originally posted by Hove Ranger View Postlooks like McCarthy is off then Stan. If we get £ 3.5 mill+ for our sub keeper thats not bad money. Green still has a couple of good seasons in him"What stats allow you to do is not take things at face value. The idea that I trust my eyes more than the stats, I just don't buy that because I've seen magicians pull rabbits out of hats and I know I just know that rabbit's not in there." - Billy Beane

It was pretty obvious from last season that we paid £2 - 3 mill. The £6mill would have been add ons (staying up, england apps) and was probably announced to make it look like a big transfer for usOriginally posted by nasser95 View PostI've had it on good authority from within the club that he did indeed cost only 2.65mil (as stated on Transfermarkt.co.uk and by many posters here.).
