Incident at Turf Moor

The club's media team took the decision to contact all the fan MB's today to provide the exact circumstances of this incident, with the following message:

"I have spoken to Clint about this and - whilst we won't be publically saying anything more to stoke the fires further - I am keen to let you know what happened.

Clint was heading over towards the tunnel when he was verbally abused by two QPR fans who had made their way towards the front of the stand with a child.

The language used by them was colourful to say the least and Clint was simply encouraging them to calm down and not swear in front of the youngster.

I have had a couple of emails from supporters backing this up and I have no reason to think it was anything more than this.

The press have blown this out of proportion, as to be expected given our current predicament, but I don't think it's wise we comment further.

However, please feel free to pass this on to your fellow supporters / MB users etc.

Hopefully it can be put to bed now and we can all focus on an upturn in fortunes ASAP."

Clint and Dunne's reaction is what got us in to the papers. Neither should of said or reacted to anything... fans understandably ####d off.

Clint telling them to be quiet cos they had a child with them helped nothing.. not sure what Hill, Dunne or Fer were trying to gain by responding.

If a players getting hammered he has a right to respond regardless of result.

You can't swear at someone & not expect a reaction. Furthermore it was directed at probably the two hardest working players.

If I give 100% and cared, then I'd react. I think it's a good thing the players reacted. Nothing wrong with a bit of fire in the belly, just a shame it's not the whole squad.

I do agree that we shouldn't swear with children around us, not setting a good example. As I've said many times, when we're angry we do or say things we later regret, we're only human after all.

Absolutely agree. People think they have the right to disrespect for no reason. It is as you say, especially shocking that it was directed at Dunne - who has hardly done much wrong before yesterday - and hill - who needs no explanation. To make matters worse, they did it in front of their children? some people have no standards or level of respect. Booing and all is fine, it is a clear sign towards everyone. But directly confronting a player one to one is just out of order and gives both us and the players who reacted a bad image and only make the situation worse.

I like Clint but I'm trying to look past Clint being a 'club legend' is all, in this situation.

All players have a right to respond but I wouldn't say doing it in front of the whole away end and cameras is the right way to respond. What did Clint Hill have to gain by going over there and arguing about fans swearing in front of a kid?.. When I 1st saw it I thought it was an argument about the performance but to learn it was about swearing in front of a kid? Just proves there was absolutely no point in any of the players responding.. If Hill really does care about that sort of thing then maybe he should listen more intently to the stands every game at Loftus Road. Adults swearing in front of kids everywhere.. every game.

I personally don't shouldn't matter whether or not children have done it, the point is that as a concept, you shouldn't create an impression of negativity and poor use of language for children. We are all adults here and we still need a filter.

He is showing a level of professionalism and humanity by doing so. It is unfortunate that due to the initial statement by the father, it appeared to have negative connotations on hill's part.

Professionalism and humanity?.. The professional thing to do would be not to react by going over and having a go back.
The professional thing would of been to ignore it and keep walking.. Then maybe mention it in his interview that he did after the game to the QPR media team.
