hits, Southern railways have an offpeak special called daysave: £15 return from London Victoria to Southampton. Unlimited travel on any offpeak trains of theirs for 1 day. I've sorted my missus and myself out for 2.
Its about a 2.5hr journey each way, compared to about 1hr on South West Trains, but SWT are much more expensive.

I couldnt get Southern railways daysave to work from their site, but if you plug in any saturday 27 Sep times into nationalrail.co.uk, their link to southern's site gets you the £15 deal.
