Actually, you can say a lot. EDL can go around calling Muslims paedos in their demonstrations. And these guys aren't arrested - they are only arrested if they start becoming violent. Surely if you could not say anything anymore, they wouldn't be allowed to say this.

I hate people playing the victim card. The fact is, there are rules laid out of what is and what isn't acceptable in a culture. Words like "P*ki" and "N*gger" were used insultingly, and this resulted in attacks on Pakistanis and Blacks, and therefore they have negative connotations, and are not acceptable. Similarly, if an Asian cricketer sent messages calling whites "W*gs", then he too would be reprimanded.

Malky's language was inappropriate. Yes, it doesn't mean he is a racist. Neither does it mean he should never be employed again. But if you're a public figure and you use words which are considered "hate words", then you have to be prepared for the consequences, one of which is that people might not want to employ you because they do not want to be associated with you.

Work environment is not just between mates. If it was no-one would know anything about it. That's the issue here really.

If by education you mean being told by some left wing wally what words are now no longer acceptable to other similiar left wing wally's i think i'll stay as i am thanks. So now the words "Turk" and "Kurd" are off limits? I think what we need is some kind of left wing dictionary that can run alongside the Oxford dictionary and maybe everyone should wear some kind of badge to denote their Turkish/Kurdish/Pakistani/whatever lineage so mistakes arent made and god forbid someone actually gets offended by a word. Calling the Chinese takeaway a "Chinky" is used by everyone i know and never in my head or otherwise is it used in racist connotations.

All anyone is asking is that people think before speaking. It's not really a massive ask is it? it helps if you have an understanding of why certain words and phrases might be sensitive, but knowing what they are is enough to avoid unnecessary offence. I know that's not necessarily high on some people's priority list, but it's a start to making the day to day more pleasant for all concerned.
