Not true. Harry actually had considerably more than half the season (26 games?) and spent over £20m on top of millions already spent. Hughes was gone after (what?) a dozen games. Our points per game ratio under Harry was actually lower (I believe) than it was under Hughes. Palace was considerably further adrift than we were when Pullis took over and player for player he didn't have a quarter of the talent that Redknapp had to call on. Nor do I buy that the team spirit was so much better under Palace necessarily prior to Pullis (no one can say for sure because you would need to be in both camps). But Palace were being thrashed every week, they were being told they didn't have a Prem player amongst them and their previous manager (Ollie) basically gave up saying he had run out of ideas to keep these players in the Prem League.
Harry is a master at playing the press. It was him who said it would be a miracle if he kept us up, his biggest achievement etc. Its classic media manipulation so if he fails no one gives him a hard time and if he succeeds he is hailed as a genius. Obviously we can only speculate now but I have a sneaking feeling a Pullis or a Fat Sam might have kept that squad up.
Because everyone hates Hughes he has been blamed for everything that went wrong that season. But terrible tho he was, he bought some players who had performed very well elsewhere. Why did these players actually do worse under "Harry the motivator"?
