If you're using Tarrabt as an example of a match winner then I think it's safe to say you could add Austin to that list..... 'probably' add our whole defence to that list as well as its arguably the best defence among our main competition and will no doubt stop a few teams scoring important goals, making them potentially 'match winners'....... Also looks likely that Remy will be here for at least the start of the season (until the next transfer window anyway, where we can do more business).

There's no question that we need to add more quality players to the starting eleven, and do it soon.Originally posted by stationcafe View PostSpot on!
It doesn't matter that we've kept our core when our squad is largely shite. And our only two genuine match winners - Remy & Taraabt - look like they'll move on.
People are deluded if they think Dunne Hill SWP Zamora Barton Simpson Henry etc. are going to make the grade this year. That's a good championship side but a ****ing dreadful premiership one.
Southampton have a good academy, lots of cash, a record of spending wisely on players with resale value and a decent manager with good connections. We've got an obsession for free transfers and Arry Redknapp filling his mates coffers.
Dunne, Hill, SWP, Zamora and Henry are all squad players. They can be decent as late subs. Only Barton and Simpson can be expected to start. I think they can be both do well for us next year as starters.

If we're to play a 3.5.2 how bad does our starting 11 look as it stands....
Green - fine
Ned - fine
Rio - with Hill and Dunne as back up, fine
Caulker - fine
Simpson (rwb) - fine
Yun (lwb)- ?
Phillips - ? But should be fine
Barton - fine
Traore - fine
Austin - fine
Remy - fine
This is just my opinion what the team should look like with our current players. There's no doubt we're short on players but comparing our starting 11 to Southampton's ours is the best... and actually a very decent 1.

As it stands our back 3 and strikers yes potentially providing we keep Remy
Our 11 better then Saints 11? - Hmmm, not looking at that central midfield area of ours
Fonte Hooiveld Yoshida
Clyne Shneiderlin Wanyama Ward-Prowse Tadic
Ramirez
Rodriguez Pelle

I've said it a lot on other threads that our midfield is our week link at this point as we are very short there. But as an overall, for now, in other positions our starting 11 look very strong especially if Remy stays...... Regarding Phillips and Traore playing in those central positions, I clearly said using our 'current player's'... Although admittedly I forgot about Henry and would play him there for one of Traore or Phillips (probably instead of Traore)Originally posted by West London is Rss View PostPhillips and Traore in the middle? They've still got Rodriguez, Wanyama, Schneiderlin, Ward-Prowse & Clyne among others. No doubt they'll bring a couple more youngsters through this year too (as they always do). Plus their chairman has come out & said today that every penny they've brought in through sales is available for Koeman to re-invest on players.Originally posted by Kevin Mcleod View PostRealism. Come on, they have sold their first 11 near on. We have got a great core and havent got rid of one first team regular. Why do people do this to make us look as bad as people that are doing terrible. Last week blackpool, had a bettter squad, this week its southampton. Dont get it, i really dont.
Don't get me wrong, they've lost alot of talent & they will no way be as good as they were last season, but personally think they'll comfortably finish above us next year. You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.

Completely agree. Problem is with the Rio and Caulker purchase it looks like we're planning for a 3 at the back (ned, Rio, Caulker) in a 3.5.2 formation!.. but with our overall player's a 4.4.2 would suit us better (at the moment as there's plenty more time to buy)Originally posted by QPR Richard View PostI think our current squad is built for 4-4-2 at the moment so Harry might have to have a rethink until he gets some more players in.
