We need it at the back too, only Ned looks even close to EPL CB right now. Mind you, Yun and Ned = 2 of a 4 so we're getting there.

Thats why an old head like rio or lescott at the back might not be such a bad acquisition. I think Ned will be class in the prem tbf. He joined us with a lot going on behind the scene but seems to have come through that and its shown in his performances.

proper footballer and have rated him from his time at Arsenal, Reading and also Fulham. One of the few players who came out with any credit last season from Fulham and sure I saw a stat the other day that he had more assists last season then any other player in the Prem league??

Would defo add to the squad. Not sure why some are comparing to Henry as their totally different players more a akin to O'Neill

I hate him but I have to admit he is a true professional, same as Doyle. Could be a good signing but I personally prefer someone else.

A squad player? Better than any other midfielder we have, including Barton. He's not a young Steven Gerrard but he is as good as we are likely to get. He is a decent grafter for a low/ mid-table Prem team. Not sure what fans expect. They want Harry to stay it seems (and as Matty says its pretty clear what he is after) and they don't want us to spend lots of money. We aren't going to get say Tom Ince on a free and we don't have the £10m or so that he wd cost - and if we did, he wd probably prefer to go and play in Milan. Need to be a lot more realistic about likely signings.

I think your right mate - in my head im finding it hard to drop barton because I think we need to keep some players in the first 11 from last year but also I think we desperately need some young legs in cm with added bit of creativity. Thats why Ive gone for good squad player, personally think he could be relied upon but would like to see barton in cm with someone like will hughes or mcarthur from wigan, maybe even cleverley (wont be to popular with that).

                    A possible midfield 3 of

                    Barton Faurlin or Granero
                    ------Sidwell------

If the funds are there then hopefully HR will be looking at a younger midfielder (such as some of the ones mentioned on here) and could drop Sidwell alongside Barton and say a Hughes (highly unlikely to happen so just an example) in the hole behind the striker.

Can't believe some are questioning Sidwell as a signing, scored 8 goals from midfield in a relegated team ( more than hooper I believe) puts his foot and has a good engine. Would be a excellent signing on a free.

Barton is an OK player and showed great attitude last season which won over all the fans. Fair play to him for that. But in the play off final the stats showed he misplaced substantially more than half his passes - against Derby. Is that going to be good enough against Swansea, forget Man City or Chelsea? I'm not saying bomb him out of the squad because he is clearly a lot better than Henry, O'Neil etc but think his cult status over the last year is in danger of clouding sober judgement about his ability - which is decent, but in Prem terms, nothing special.

Barton is a very average player. Perfect for the championship. A lot of heads have been clouded. If we rely on barton as our main man in the middle of the park then we will struggle.

We have old and experienced in midfield so need to add younger energy and maybe craft..... I'm hopeful Faurlin and Granero both get named in the 25 as both have huge potential and mid 20's.....

Name faurlin in the 25 seen as we have give him a year to prove himself but he is nowhere near the answer to midfield. Good championship player when fit if ever.

Sidwell would be an excellent signing for us IMO
