Not everybody wants to stand at a football match. Out of courtesy to the other fans, I always sit unless everybody is standing or the person in front of me is standing and I can't see. I feel bad doing it because I am 6'5" and I know darned well the person behind me can't see over me. If the jerk in front of me insists on standing and the person behind me is complaining, I guarantee it will end badly.

Edit: My preference would be to stand all match, but you have to have consideration for the other fans.
