To be honest, it's really not so much about the words being used, but the sentiment behind them that is usually the offensive bit.

Now I'm not racist, never have been never will be... but I was brought up in a very old school way and it was the norm to hear this term.. so even though I use it, I genuinely never ever mean any disrespect by it... my point being it depends on how you mean it. Some people say things but they don't mean any harm by it.

Without knowing the reason that word is censored, it's hard to know what the rationale behind it is.

While the actual homophobia, both casual and the really horrible stuff, does however seem to be tolerated, it does look absolutely ridiculous.

If it is just one of a list of words that are banned to appease the Google advert revenue, then as stupid as it is, at least it isn't driven by the owners of the site.

If you're not sure, probably best to err on the side of caution. Probably a decent way to talk to or about anyone really.

Unless you are looking to offend, in which case man up and use a properly offensive term, then everyone knows where they stand, and be prepared for whatever comeback is appropriate.

Astounding and it's lack of common sense in application shows that no thought has been given to it, and they've made it offensive to everyone, and not actually addressing the really offensive and nasty stuff that needn't utilise any of those words. Hell, most of really offensive nasty stuff comes from people who wouldn't know half of those words, let alone be able to use them in a sentence....
