      Why would you want your keeper to just kick it long? most of the time it comes straight back, its having the confidence and players in front of the defenders who want the ball to feet, and play out, surly far better than to watch 70 yard long humps up and down a pitch for 90 min?

        getting on the back of a keeper prone to gaffs will always get you the best results, just like shouting at young children does.
